Although the actor who plays Gettrick is quite youthful looking, he's only a few years younger than David Morrissey; the're both approx 50 so would've been prime squaddie age 25 years ago.


She's clearly British for a reason- if only so that Sophie would have a credible reason for being so fluent in English. But like you, I feel there could be another link to her being British. But I have finally let go of my previous theory that Sam had an affair with her, making Sophie & Alice half sibs and thus a DNA match to Body In Shed. And I am now grimly beginning to accept that BIS is really Alice. But I have a naive sliver of hope that she is still alive somewhere.


To be picky- the locks & bolts are still being used in abundance, and she suggested she didn't need them to Gettrick because she could "be trusted", but that might have been so she could escape with Lucy rather than because she's consenting.

I have not read many of recent threads posted over last few days so i apologise if i am going over old ground.

Firstly i think that we now know the only reason Adam Gettrick allowed Sophie to go to hospital was she was seriously ill and potentially could die without operation so i believe he came up with plan to frame Nadia Hertz's husband( i will touch on reason why i think he did this later),got hold of his camera and took some photos of Sophie just before he let her go thus implicating Mr Hertz.

Also when you think about it that is probably how Sophie was able to come up with such a good identikit of Mr Hertz as she had seen photos of him on the stolen camera.

Another observation is the person who sent camera to Nadia Hertz must know a lot about her character as a lot of spouses would have destroyed the evidence to protect their partner but not Mrs Hertz. I think the person knew that she is someone honest who would not cover up for such a terrible crime and i think this is related to what happened in Iraq.

Whilst i do not believe Nadia Hertz was the "Third" person who Brigadier Stone was referring to i think she either witnessed the crime or found out about it and i think she tried to expose the culprits but senior Army Brass covered it up, this is why Stone is so cold towards her as she tried to expose his crime in 1991 and also might explain why she either left army in disgust or was forced out soon after.

Another thing whilst it is easy to assume that Adam Gettrick took all three girls on his own could it be that perhaps there was one for him,one for Henry Reed & another for Brigadier Stone(bit far fetched but possible).

Whatever i think Henry Reed tried to Set Sophie Free on 14th December when he could see she was ill but paid for it with his life , perhaps he either had managed to get Sophie & Lucy back to his place but Gettrick Found out murdered him and re-took Sophie driving her back to his house in Colonel Reed's car(this explains why it was not there when the call girl came to meet him). I think this is reason why Sophie puts the statice flowers on his grave as he died trying to release her

Just a follow up on my previous post as did not want to overload it with too much detail.

Whilst Stockholm Syndrome is a possibility i am inclined more to think that Sophie complied in 2014 with Gettrick's plan and is still complying today is that she is terrified that she will never see her daughter again if she doesn't. I have no Doubt that Gettrick has made it clear that if she doesn't follow her orders he will kill little Lucy and she has no reason to doubt him knowing his character.

Now for Iraq in 1991 who were the "terrible three" it is likely to be Colonel Reed and Brigadier Stone but Adam gettrick may or may not be third person. If he is it could explain that he has always had instinct for Younger girls and has carried this on since 1991, perhaps all three have done so. However it could also be that the three involved were not who we think and it maybe that either Sam webster or Sophie Geroux's father was there in Iraq as young officers in 1991.

Is there a possibility that Gettrick found out about what happened when Nadia Hertz tried to expose the truth and he has decided years later to take Sophie and Alice to punish the guilty culprits, after all he said to Lucy there are "Bad men "out there. I am not sure this would explain why Lena was taken though although her father was probably in Army as well.

If Gettrick was involved along with Reed and Stone then it makes me wonder if all three were not involved in taking Alice,Sophie and Lena. I wonder if reason Gettrick bonded especially with Sophie is because he spent most of his time with her and Alice & Lena were being looked after by Reed & Stone.

BIB1- Nadia said the camera was returned to her from "lost property". So either Gettrick left it with people who work in lost property, or he sent it himself.

BIB2- I like that; although she seemed chummy and comfortable at the funeral. Not that that necessarily means much. But I get the impression she stayed in the army for a while after 1991, and only left relatively recently, around the time she married Herz. I've no evidence for that- just a hunch.

This seems plausible. It is on the face of it a bit odd if we believe, as has been suggested on here, that Gettrick is disposing of the girls as they grow up and are too old for his tastes, that he would hatch a plan for Sophie to go to hospital. Why not just let her die and abduct someone else, or wait for Lucy to get a bit older? Something clearly happened to cause Henry Reed's death just before Sophie/Alice's 'escape', and if he was trying to help her, Gettrick caught and killed him but not before the girl had been set free in the forest, that could explain his death so close to her reappearance.

Then again, we don't know that Gettrick is a multiple murderer. We know he likes young girls and has abducted Sophie and probably Alice and Lena too. We know he is Lucy's father. We know he killed Jorn in a panic because Jorn was getting too close to the truth. And as a solder it's quite possible he has killed before in the line of battle and is more inured to killing than a civilian would be. But we don't know that he has killed others outside a war scenario.

Then again, there is the body in the shed, almost certainly put there by Gettrick as Sophie couldn't have done it on her own, hopefully dead already and if so, how?

Yep- Reed's death seems to be crucial to what followed. Given that appendicitis can't be planned for, was his death a reaction to it or a pure coincidence?

Reed died on 14th Dec, Sophie reappeared on 18th. As I mentioned a while back, I've no idea how long an appendix takes to go from showing symptoms to looking as Sophie did on the 18th, so are the two events closely related?

Are we assuming Sam was there at all in 1991, the events led to why the girls were taken but does not automatically mean he was. I cannot think why Alice and Sophie were taken apart from the way they look as if they resembled someone and that's why.

I find it hard to believe that there were three soldiers in that unit with paedophile tendencies. I believe the first words Mirza said when he found out the reason for Baptiste's visit were "they killed my village". He then goes on to mention Stone and Reed in connection with his sister. That makes it sound like a more typical wartime atrocity resulting in the destruction of the entire village.
We don't know much about Stone's sexual interests apart from that mention of "alabaster skin" which could be just the innocent ramblings of someone suffering from Alzheimer's. But we do know that Reed had interests in other "directions" than young girls.
I'm more inclined to think that Gettrick's twisted "interests" developed later, and both Stone and Reed were forced into compliance to buy Gettrick's continued silence about Iraq.
Where Nadia fits in I'm not so sure, she's a very cold fish. After they took her husband away she didn't appear to have much trouble in believing him to be guilty. When you consider the atrocious nature of the crime, that seems very peculiar to me. Particularly after the earlier scene when she was acting all loved-up with him. She was the senior officer in Iraq, so could be in the same position as others regarding the cover-up. As far as the girls are concerned, she could also have been part of the plan to frame her husband. But I'm not so sure about that any more.

If Sophie was telling the truth about Alice being so ill, that she died, then it could be Alice's body in the shed. She could have been kept in the boarded up room next to Alice's without the locks. Once she died the locks weren't needed.
Sophie's definitely been helping him - she even told Gettrick he could trust her after ' what she's done for him...'

I do think we can over analyse detail and the story is bring played out clearly on screen. By clearly I mean there is a storyline that is being built up across the time frames. This last week filled in the gaps between 2015 and 2016. Next week it's 1991 and the girls abductions. Final episode what happened in 2014 with Sophie release and then into final ending.

With any series you have plot devices and plot device characters.

Sophie being French to bring Baptiste into investigation.

Sophie's mother being English to make her fluent in English prior to capture.

Sophie's mothers suicide to provide the guilt factor to push Baptiste out of retire mentioned.

Reed sexual preferences to indicate he could be involved in sex crimes. Nobody on here jumped to that conclusion but it is a classic writer tactic.

Gettrick Uncle is an explanation for the Swiss hut but also just background that will turn out abused becomes abuser. He's not a character in this directly.

It's like conspiracy theories if you analyse to the enth detail you will find linkages. Not everything has to tie into main thrust of storyline.


Suspect we are going to get a similar ending to series 1. Sophie is freed but she isn't free of the mental barriers. Tony found out what happened but mentally he couldn't accept it.

No, because he didn't have one. The army, Brig.Stone and Gerrick wanted to keep Alice's appearance under wrap. Now we know why Gerrick wanted Alice' face out of the press. It also makes sense why Eve asked for Baptiste's help one minute, and then rejected it it the next. She was probably told to get rid of him.

btw -Gemma hadn't yet found the photo of Alice and Sophie on the roller coaster when Baptiste visited Sophie's father.

Yes I agree with what you are saying, it's all supposed to have us thinking it's all connected when it's not.

I have an open mind of it all, I was wondering after watching Wednesday episode, if Reed isn't connected at all to the kidnappings.

Perhaps, like Jorn, he saw something and knew that Sophie and daughter were being locked up, and Gettrick thought the only way to silence him was to kill him? As he was a colleague of Getterick, he felt some guilt and got Sophie to buy flowers but he put them on the grave, they have footage of her in flower shop but do they have footage of who laid them? Reed is obviously linked to Iraq perhaps completely innocent to the kidnappings?

Just an idea, like you said perhaps everything has an explanation and not necessary all linked.

I just cannot reconcile the fact that others would collude with Gettrick and his wickedness just to keep their own secrets safe. Does anybody else really know what Gettrick has been up to?

tbf- I don't think every poster on here thinks every detail is connected- just that different posters consider different details; but when you read the thread as a whole it can seem to take on one monolithic character.

It's the problem with forums- most of the time I can't remember which faceless poster said which thing, but irl it'd be easy to remember who said what.

I reckon Jorn's phone will play a part, that is if Gettrick hasn't got rid of it. Sophie wanted a phone in the cabin - Gettrick refused. He might cut the cord on the public phone so that Sophie is unable to use it, but then she'll find Jorn's. imo

Well he never thought "Alice" was Alice, and since he's assuming -like everyone else- that the body in the shed was the girl who re-appeared, then to him, the real Alice is still out there.

Nobody else knows that the girl who reappeared is still alive.

yeah , so in 2015 Baptiste must believe that the returned girl was Sophie and that she lied about being Alice and then she burnt herself because . . . well I don't know what his theory on that would be .
