To those who are confused. They start with the abduction then 2014 and then go back forth to the present. The haircuts and appearances are the main thing to spot to tell apart the times. The last series did not bother with past and future captions. Not until a few episodes in, when they realised the viewer were getting confused.
It was a bit confusing when the soldier was 8 months pregnant then she was only 2 months pregnant and had a photo of her baby scan on her fridge and was deciding whether to tell David Morrissey.

Well, I really enjoyed that and I didn't find the time hopping that difficult to keep up with nice I spotted the appearance differences.

Really looking forward to next week.

The first series has no connection with this one apart from Baptiste was in both. The first one was similar in the fluctuating timelines and confusing storyline, which when I got to the end I still couldn't fathom out.
He looks much older with the shaved head. He looks a lot better with longer hair.

It's right up my street - I love mystery shows.

To all those who are saying they're confused - you're supposed to be at this stage. They're giving us different timelines and part of the 'fun' is piecing it all together like a jigsaw.

Surely you've all seen episodes of TV shows where you watch an opening scene in a bit of confusion, then the next scene says "3 months earlier" for example, and then the rest of the show is working its way back to the first scene you saw. It's like that, only it jumps back and forth between timelines to keep you guessing.

When Baptiste said the girl "wasn't Alice" I'm not sure if he meant it literally or just metaphorically -- i.e. she was so damaged by her ordeal she was a shell of her former self.

It was slow-burning to start with but soon got cooking, just like the first episode of the last series.

It's a lot to take in with the dual timelines, but that's the great thing about it - that way it keeps you guessing.

As some others have said it appears 'Alice' is not actually Alice Webster, I think it is the other girl that is being searched for and she has been given Alice's identity, possibly by the people who took them. Alice is still out there somewhere...

She was 8 months pregnant in 2014. She was with David Morrissey in the present day. So the fact she was looking at a scan means she may well have lost the baby or there's some other reason the baby wasn't with her. There was no sign of a child there anyway.

Me too, in fact I have lost the plot completely. Came on here to try to make sense of what is going on!
Ditto me too, but it's not helping so far

I wondered that as well.

It definitely seemed to me that she had lost the baby and was attempting to forget it happened.

Yes, perhaps there's some trauma -- i.e. she's attacked/assaulted while investigating the reappearance of Alice. It was rather telling that her dad made a comment about the fact she ought to be on maternity leave.

Did Alice die the same day as the black guy's father?

I think she died on 14/12/2014 and that was the date on his coffin
Date on grave stone was 22/12/14

Ooh no wonder I was confused. I thought there was a flashback to the start of her pregnancy and he was the father. I guess it will become clearer in time.

I know it was the present but forgot she was also pregnant in 2014.

Yeah it's the sort of show you really have to pay attention to the whole time. Luckily they've made it quite easy to tell the difference between the timelines.

Mum - long hair past, shorter hair present
Dad - skin is fine past, scarred in present
Baptiste - hair in the past, bald in present
Son - see Baptiste!
Female officer - pregnant in past, not pregnant in present

Etc, etc.

Plus they seem to be putting the year onscreen too, but they're likely to stop that soon.

Confused. Who was the dad sh*gging? Looked like the military policewoman, who we saw largely pregnant earlier. Why did she hide the baby scan photo? Is Alice dead? Flipping heck.
I think the pregnancy was a surrogate one, her father mentioned a sister and that she would be cross if she knew her sister was still working. Could be wrong!

Well I didn't see the first series but among other questions, do we know how the dad became so scarred? I've noticed nothing yet that explains it.
Hasn't been explained yet!

When we saw them having sex, Morrisey's character's body had burn scars so I thought that bit was present day while her pregnancy was from 2 years earlier.

That kitchen space of the female MP also looked similar to the spot being cleaned by the young black soldier - though probably both army homes. Assume the blood to be his fathers but who knows?

Anyway, I am not sure I will be tuning in next week. I loved the first series, even the ending, which was more than satisfactory, in my opinion. But a sweaty and shaven headed Baptiste wandering around the middle east looking like Chris Ecclestone's father isnt a good watch

Oh for goodness sake I don't need a step by step guide like a flippin child. I didn't find it that difficult to follow. Just her pregnancy threw me as she was pregnant twice.

No because she was 8 months pregnant in 2014 which I forgot and newly pregnant when she was with Morrissey.

At eight months? I wonder if she gave it up for adoption.

See I assumed it was the old scan picture, not a new one.
