Best Multi Region DVD player?
Grafenwalder

I'm looking for tips on best brand DVD player recorder. Possibly with HDD though not an essential at this point but must be multi region or 'region free' as i want a dvd film which is only available in the US.

It must also play blank media discs.

Any tips appreciated.

This is temptingly cheap for brand new though it is player only.

Given DVD players are as good as dead now, with Blu Ray being so cheap, I'd actually say that's quite expensive.

Why do you want / need a DVD recorder? Relatively, there are very few of those on the market and they've not been an overwhelming success. If it's to record TV programmes off-air, you're much better off with a PVR.

Various options exist for this kind of question, so if you can add a bit more detail, the replies you'll get will be much more complete.

Because i've got loads of perfectly good DVD's. In fact i bought this only a few days ago http://store.hmv.com/film-tv/dvd/jef...e-in-hyde-park

I already have a pvr so i suppose a record facility (dvd) isn't an absolute must, but it must be 'region free' plus able to play blank media too.

I bought a cheap (£15) dvd player from a supermarket last year and it's absolute junk.

I was looking more for tips on decent make/models.

The description of that product on e-bay is a bit misleading, there's no such thing as a full HD DVD player, the best it can do is upscale to HD.

If you can live without a recording facility, then I would go for a blu-ray player with multi-region DVD capabilities. Don't know your budget but it seems like you're not wanting to spend too much, this Panasonic at £67.98 is quite reasonable and they are a good make. This LG is cheaper at £42.43 and is a decent make, although most wouldn't class them at the same level as Panasonic.

Both will play all the common blank media formats, DVDs of any region as well as blu-ray disks (region B only) if you're interested in proper full HD. There are also players which are multi-region for both DVD and blu-ray but they tend to be considerably more expensive, here's the same Panasonic model as above for £149.00.

You won't find "decent" DVD players any more - the price drops have seen to that and even the "big brand" DVD players are nothing special now. But surely you can't be surprised when, on average, a DVD player costs less than a night on the beer.

I'm not sure what benefit Blu-ray would be for me as none of my dvds are blu-ray? I spent time last night looking around and notice brand makes, LG, Panasonic, Samsung etc player only can be bought quite cheap. But the price rises significantly for one with HDD, even used or 'seller refurbished'. Strange when you consider the cost of hard drives has plummeted over the years (i paid £56 two years ago for a 2tb drive in my pc, they might even be less now).

I could afford to splash out on brand new 'top of the range all singing n dancing' machine, but with such a large price gap difference between player/recorder and player only, i'm left wondering if it really is worthwhile.

As mentioned in a post i bought a supermarket cheapie last year for £15 and it's a piece of junk. It plays a disc all the way through non-stop but try using the fast forward, pause or skip button and it 'locks' up.

I'd like one that does the job properly and gives good results! It wouldn't bother me what it said on the front of the thing as long as it worked in all functions!

A BD player would benefit you as you could then play BD as well as DVD to expand your viewing options. As for recording I think the high price is because that market is dead, nobody records to discs anymore you can find multi-region players on Amazon and I would also recommend http://www.mrmdvd.com/
