The Armageddon factor is bloody awful, exemplifying all that is bad about 1970s six-parters. the rest of the season is magnificent though.
II wouldn't go as far as saying it was that bad but it certainly wasn't as good as the ones before it. But I get where you are coming from.

I haven't watched it in ages though. I bought the vids when they were out in the 90s but haven't got the DVDs yet.

The end is the only fail, and rather made the whole thing pointless - like the quest was the point but they didn't know what to do once it was done.

I like a mix of turning up in to adventures and having a reason to be there for the adventure.

I certainly think it's the weakest of the season (I rather like Power of Kroll, which seems to get a lot of stick) as it is just so *rambling* and takes so long to get to the underwhelming climax. Shame, as I like the first episode. The opening scene is pure cheese ("Young men are out there...dying for it!" ) but the 'reveal' where the camera pans away from what thankfully turns out to be a dreadful propaganda piece on TV and we see the wounded and dying in the hospital as bombs reign down is v effective.

I like The Shadow, John Woodvine's a good actor, Tom seems pretty engaged throughout and Mary Tamm gives a good last performance as Romana (and never looked more stunning) and the direction is okay, but boooyyy, does it drag! Think it has it's moments, but needed serious trimming and a better conclusion. Shame. Still a favourite season though.

Armageddon Factor just goes on and on and bloody on. Endless capture/escape stuff. There's a bit with multiple Romanas which felt like padding. I have a real problem with a lot of 70s six-parters, and this is among the worst. Power of Kroll is a bit poor, but at least it's only got four episodes.

I'm happy with The Armageddon Factor, felt at times a bit padded but not a bad end to the season.
