Comedians, Circuit, a lot of them will probably met each other at least in passing while working the circuit, or know someone who knows them via the circuit.

Their agent/agency probably has more influence about who's invited onto the program.

Acaster, as well as the stuff that he comes out with something about him just rubs me up the wrong way, there is a juddering downshift whenever he gets involved.
It's just annoying how Aisling especially keeps going on about who she knows.

Acaster isn't the funniest and his performance this week was poor even by his standards, but it's a common theme from most guests this series.

comedians seem funnier on panel shows than doing their own material. rob beckett was hopeless on the royal variety.
couldnt sit through an hour of any comics dvd really but they seem funny on panel shows.

They only have to make comments for small periods. An hour long DVD means they have to have enough material to last the whole hour, which most don't have at any one time.

This weeks show has moved to Wednesday. Joe Wilkinson again, Rosin Conaty, Carrie Fisher and two members of boyband The Vamps.

Just watched last weeks.

James Acaster was trying so hard to be like Joe Wilkinson it was uncomfortable and unfunny. Get your own gimmick mate.

You mean Tuesday to Wednesday?

Can't watch it tonight, so it's the repeat for me.

Good one tonight. Rob and Aisling are no Sean and Jon but it's settled into a groove that the early ones seemed to indicate it never would. Amazing that after all those drugs Carrie is still sharp and funny. She was quite a babe back in the day.

Really liked tonight's episode, the best so far for me.

That 'Speak Out' game at the end had me in stitches.

Pffft that wasn't up to much, that's the second Christmas special I've seen this week, that was special because it wasn't as funny as the standard product.
Carrie made a good fist of it, shame they didn't give her more to do as she's quite funny and sharp, but it's got to fit the time/format.
I assume she's doing more work now, as she popped up in Catastrophe.

On the Star Wars tip, Mark Hamill's got his own online show about collectors, Mark Hamill's Pop Culture Quest.

This show made me laugh out loud, and there aren't many of those around.

Saw last Tuesday's and Kammy looked so out of place, you had to feel for him. Maybe they won't invite him a second time. Oh and I like Aisling.

He looked no more out of place than other non-comedians on panel shows, he made a good fist of it and played along tried to contribute and had some success.
He's the sort of guest I'd assume would get another invite, he didn't think he'd turn up and have a kip, he came to work and he worked for his fee IMO.

I thought Kammie was pretty good as he was on WILTY. Seems a natural to be the non comedian on these shows as he laughs at everything and has a few stories .........and there's plenty of clips of him cocking up on live TV

I enjoyed the Christmas special ..............lots of laugh out loud moments

I thought the two lads, who obviously I'd never heard of, took the ribbing in good spirits and Carrie is always good value. I liked when Aisling asked her why she was invited to the White House before she did Star Wars

I guess it's got to be difficult when you are an overnight icon at age 20 then nothing tops that for 40 years ........... obviously life has taken it's toll on her but she's still sharp as a razor, She's particularly suited to The Last Leg which she appears on as it's more conversational and spontaneous and she can swear like a trooper

I found the game where they stuck things in their mouths went on far too long..........

I disagree. I think he was like a fish out of water and I mean, I like the guy and as you say, he never had a kip, maybe he will get another go. I reckon if they want a footy pundit, Paul Merson would have been just as good a bet, if not more.

I don't know who Paul Merson is and I'm guessing that's because he's not interesting or funny outside of his football punditry skills.
Football had buggerall to do with why Chris was invited on, really could have been any sport, it's his personality that got him on.

Anyway that's enough of that tangent.

Carrie Fisher is a fine writer too - Her book Postcards From the Edge is hilarious.

Terrible news today. Was this now her last UK TV appearance? C4 been repeating it a few times the last week - Is there another scheduled?

Possible we'll see an extra screening of Cats on C4/4seven in the coming days following the news - BBC have wedged a George Michael gig into tonight's schedule (and may give Carrie's QI from a couple of Christmas back an outing - it was on Dave on Christmas Day, though IIRC there was no specific nod to Carrie's then condition in the intro...)

Hmm, I thought it got quite poignant when Jimmy asked Carrie where she was spending Christmas.
She had also done a Graham Norton show just recently which I haven't seen yet, but I did watch The Last Leg she was on. I expect she will make an appearance on Adam's desk or they pay tribute to her in the next episode.

Also surely if it's different team captains it's not '8 Out Of 10 Cats' does Countdown any more?
Agreed. '8 Out Of 10 Cats does Countdown' also now uses an out-of-date Countdown format as normal dictionaries have been replaced by an online dictionary on normal Countdown.

There's a few things to consider about replacing the captains on Cats Does Countdown:
1. Replacing the captains would be a revamp so unless they are definitely going to do more series of it they probably don't want to replace the captains.
2. It's filmed at a different location so one or both of the new captains might not want to commit to regularly going to the other filming location.
3. While Sean Lock isn't a brilliant player he's a lot better than Rob Beckett.
4. Rachel Riley acted in a very jealous manner when Aisling Bea appeared alongside Jon Richardson on an episode of 8 Out Of 10 Cats does Countdown. She doesn't seem to like the competition of other younger attractive females on the show.

However, on the other hand Jon Richardson hasn't just gone past his best on the show, you can actually see the mould growing on him.

'Real' countdown records their five episodes in two and a half days, I believe, so maybe Cats Does is similar? That said, it's also a more elaborate production so maybe it could be slower, but that still allows for maybe doing two a week?
Filming for Cats Does Countdown is 2 episodes per week both in the same evening. The audience for the first recording is allowed in at 5pm, they start filming around 6pm and it goes on for almost 2 hours in total - they do about 45 minutes of opening material which is edited down to around 1/3rd of that*, they do 3 dictionary corner segments with the worse one being dropped and there's some breaks and a bit of time for outtakes. The audiences change over at around 8pm and the process starts again.

* Some of Jimmy Carr's jokes are deemed too rude for Channel 4. I don't know how much editing down the BBC do when he appears on Live At The Apollo!
