Not really missing it, too many other stores are selling what it did.

I used to use Woolworths a lot, then i discovered internet shopping and never looked back. Even if Woolworths was still around i wouldn't use it anymore, all my shopping is done online now.

It was a great shop when I was a kid growing up in the 90s and early 00s; I used to like their pick 'n mix, CDs, games, cheap toys and stationary for school (usually cheaper than WHSmith).
But now as a 30 year old adult, I really don't think I'd go in there very often even if it were still going. |

I'm gutted that 'woolies' has gone, even though the last time I went in there was probably early 80s

I'll never miss it. It always seemed to be stuck in a time-warp from the 70s. Even when I was in my teens in the 1980s I didn't go to Woolworths because it felt old fashioned and irrelevant.

I hate shopping but loved Woolworths and always enjoyed going into it. In many ways, Wilkinson and poundland have covered all its bases so although they are gone, their ' range' is still about on the high street

No need for Woolworths now that we have B&M and the Range stores.

Until I saw this thread I hadn't even given Woolworths a thought, so no I don't miss it. As others have said, it was good for stationary when i was a kid but as an adult I tend to spend more on that kind of thing now. Besides, with the internet who needs any kind of shop?

I think of Wilko as the nearest thing to Woolworths except it doesn't do children's clothes, toys, entertainment stuff such as books or CDs, videos, which are difficult to compete with online retailers anyway.

The thing I miss about Woolworths is its smell. It had a very particular smell like they had piped the essence of their Pick 'n' Mix around the store.

The Pound store is the Woolworths of the last decade. Okay, so you don't get much electricals for a pound, but you get DVDs, socks, garden stuff, tools, sweets... if Woolworths was at least halfway to a proper department store, Poundland is at least halfway to a Woolworths

I'll miss it on Christmas Eve when I realise I still have a bunch of presents to buy. Boy, will I miss it then!

I liked Woolworths, especially as I worked there on Saturdays and in the school holidays.

Missing what? Everything they ever sold is still available in pound shops, Primark and Lidl. Quote:

There's a reason Poundstretcher and 99p Stores vary their stock around the year... |

Yeah, but how many people want to buy Christmas wrapping paper in April or sun glasses in November?
