I agree - perhaps I should have a more relevant user name as well?

I lean more towards Rock & Metal but I like a lot of other stuff too but wouldn't go out of my way to concentrate on a certain genre

Oh okay then – absolutely anything considered except Country (unless it's the Cardigans' own unique brand of it), Heavy Metal (especially the type with singing in silly high-pitched voices with lyrics about The Beast and guitars making that stupid squealing noise). But worst of all has to be Rap – absolutely all of it, in all its stupidly-named disguises, unless performed by Sir John Cooper Clarke.

Synthwave/darksynth is where it's at for me right now, it's spectacular. Carpenter Brut and Perturbator are gods.

So Country, Heavy Metal and Rap are your absolute favourites* then. Thanks for sharing.

Personally, I don't like to pigeonhole music in to genres. I like everything.

It's normal to describe music by genre. It helps people investigate more of what they have an affinity for.

Nobody likes everything. Maybe you like various music from a variety of different genres - most of us do - but I've never encountered anyone who likes everything.

Electronic music is my favourite genre but that's probably too broad as there are loads of sub genres. Have always liked techno, minimal techno more recently and there are too many others to mention that I like. Don't like hardcore and there are many others on that list which I don't know what sort of music it's referring to.

One genre I object to is IDM (Intelligent dance music) as I think it's elitist and meaningless to describe any music as intelligent.

My tastes are not limited to electronic music, think there are lots more genres I listen to than those I don't. Did not consider myself to like country music but saw an artist sing a song on 'Later... with Jools Holland' which I liked and later learned she was in that music genre after a little research.

I like and will listen to most genres of music, but my absolute favourites are early '80's new wave, 2 Tone, Ska and Reggae.
