iPhone SE touch pad problems
Stereo Steve

This worked for ages but just recently has started playing up. I work with my hands a lot so it's possible that is causing an issue but even with super clean hands and a clean touch pad, I often can't get it to work. Getting annoying in shops now. I have deleted all the prints and re-done just my right thumb and it works a couple times and then says 'Try again' and I have to use the PIN.

Anyone else had this? It's a bit frustrating as it's a really handy thing. I'm assuming it's something I'm doing but is it a possible fault? Or it needs a reset or something?

Thanks.

Edit: just added a new print of the same thumb and it works perfectly but I expect it to stop working in the next 24 hours again.

i find if my hands are damp (ie, just washed) then it doesn't work. So maybe yours might have been too clean.

If adding the thumb again doesn't help, then I would get Apple to check it out.

You can, of course, add more fingers! My iPhone unlocks with either thumb which I have found useful if liquid stops the preferred one working for a while.

I've found this with my fingerprint sensor (not iPhone) - if my finger is even slightly damp it won't recognise it.

Edit: I feel I should re-phrase that...

Mine is the same. Every so often I have to delete the first fingerprint and do it again which enables it to work for a while. . Even then it doesn't always work, I can very rarely get the touch id apps to work either. So annoying as the delete crosses come up instead., and then the next time it works. I do find wiping my thumb on my clothes first helps a bit.

Out of the two I find the second generation Touch ID sensor is much less error prone compared to the one found in iPhone SE.

One thing I do use quite often to wipe the finger print reader is a lens wipe you'd use on glasses etc.

That and trying to keep your fingers dry when unlocking the device.

If the SE sensor is the same as the 1st generation Touch ID used in the iPhone 6 while it is slower I have not found it to be any less accurate!

Blimey Steve, I thought that new iPhone of yours was just perrrrfect? What's that saying Apple uses again 'it just works'.

It hasn't gone on fire yet so I'll be thankful for small mercies.

Bah, had to reset it again. Seems to be a couple days and it goes wrong. Either my thumb is going wrong or something else it up. It worked fine for ages so I'm wondering if it's a fault.

I have an SE and have never had a problem with Touch ID. In fact prior to iOS10 I had to press very quickly to get to the lock screen.

Maybe I've got exceptionally good finger prints.
