Can you help..... I purchased a Samsung UE48JU6400 TV back in the Spring from Richer Sounds. All works fine apart from the fact that I appear to be unable to screen mirror any content from either my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge or my Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Certain functions work occasionally eg, I can control the TV using the phone as a remote, and youtube works being 'cast' from the phone to the telly.

But I cannot do a simple screen mirror from either device. I've rung Richer Sounds and had online chat with Samsung to no avail, and am wondering if other users have had the same??

The TV can see my device and vice versa, I then get the 'Connecting to..' message, it then hangs and disconnects. Its a minor niggle really but surely it can't be that hard to screen mirror between the same manufacturers devices??!

Hopefully someone can offer me a solution!

Yes - my phone stopped mirroring to my tv last year so I did some investigation into the issue. This is what I found out:

So Android devices have two different technologies built into them to allow the screen to be mirrored on a tv - Chromecast and MIracast. Chromecast requires a separate dongle (I expect you've heard of it) and connects to the internet independently allowing streaming of certain content directly without using your phone's resources. Miracast is a direct mirroring technology and allows content to be shown on another device exactly as it appears on the former. This is the technology that your samsung tv uses for the mirroring.

Now when Android brought out the last but one version (Marshmallow) they decided to switch off the Miracast function as standard. I don't know why they did this but I suspect it has something to do with wanting to sell more chromecast sticks. . . . . Unfortunately there is no way of switching the function back on without rooting your devices.

So basically your phone and tab still have the ability to mirror to the tv, but Android have flipped a switch in the software and told it that it's no longer allowed to do so. If you're familiar with rooting and don't mind doing it then I suggest googling for an answer on how to turn it back on.
