Never heard of it
It was in black and white. Richard Thorpe was one of the doctors, he went on to play Alan Turner in Emmerdale.

Can we count the Archers on the radio. My gran and I listened to the very first episode. Be for that it was Dick Barton, Special Agent. Happy days.

So how many years exactly have you been watching soaps and what makes you keep watching?
All my life. I'm 30 next week. I keep watching out of force of habit I guess. Also at times they can be good.

I think that can be said for most people on here. Its pure escapism and nothing more.
Maybe so but there definitely are a few that take them way too seriously especially those that talk of 'investing' in characters and what have you.

My earliest memories of Corrie are from the mid 1990s as a young child, when the Batterbys arrived was when I really started to pay attention and have watched it ever since..

I started watching Home and Away when I was about 11 in 2000, I watched that religiously until about 2014, gave up after the show became a shadow of it's former self.

I've never watched EE, HO or Neighbours. ED I watch from time to time but very sporadic.

I used to watch 'The Bill' for a few years in the early-mid 2000s as a teenager (days of Cathy Bradford etc)

Emmerdale - since mid 2003 because one of my earliest soap memories was Chris Tate committing suicide and framing Charity for it, and also the storm which happened a few months later. The opening credits for that era are really memorable to me because of how dramatic the theme is and also those images of the people.
Corrie - 2005 - this year.
EastEnders - early 2003
Hollyoaks - watched since the end of 2005 when Becca got stabbed in prison and died in hospital.
Family Affairs - since 2004 remember the Costello family and Pete Callan running the pub and we watched that until the final episode in 2005.

Its like a habit, its always been on in my house, but from memory about 95/96 I really got into watching EE &, ED, Brookside, I was about 8, Corrie from about 99, the re-introduction of Sarah Platt is what made me watch, HO has always been on/off but from probably about 1997 but I think EE really caught my attention from 2000 when the Slaters moved in that when it gripped me and I've never looked back.

It's quite funny funny as this week actually marks 10 years since I started watching my first soap, EastEnders. I had seen the odd episode before, however.

I remember it so vividly! The Square was mourning Pauline's death, Sonia had been arrested, and Martin even kidnapped Ben in one episode. I know this wasn't exactly a great period for the show, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't start to enjoy it. By the end of the year, I'd become glued by the Stax storyline, after thoroughly enjoying the Ben/Stella abuse storyline and the Mad May storyline. I was only about 8 at the time, and I remember looking forward to it every night. I feel the show went from strength to strength under Santer and my love for the show continued until mid 2011, when it started to become unrecognisable to me (Never mind a viewer that had watched from the start!). Thankfully, DTC helped pick the show back up in 2013/2014.

In recent years, I have watched many episodes from the 80's, 90's and early 00's on youtube/dailymotion (Especially the big ones!), which have helped shape my passion for the shows history.

I also started watching Coronation Street and Emmerdale in 2007 aswell. It took me a little longer to get in to the latter. Storylines I remember around the time I started watching Corrie were the Maria/Liam/Tony/Carla love Square and the Jamie/Violet/Sean saga. In Emmerdale, I remember there being a big storylines with the King's and Katie, and also Nicola was so evil when I first started watching! Her and David were trying to kill off an old man at one point! I think his name was Donald or something (My knowledge of Emmerdale's History is not as good as my knowledge on the history of EE and Corrie)
