do you know this sort of huge artists that release a song, skyrocket to the top 10 and sort of stabilize there? have they become one of those in australia/nz? or am i jinxing it?

Looks like a fan to me.
As much as the celebrity breakup storyline added to it, the song is very relatable. Most everybody has an ex they would like to slap or knows someone who does.

Ooh, just woke up (can't sleep) and am amazed at the streams.
Pretty clearly they are breaking bigger this era. I would not start feeling like it's this or nothing in the US though. They have really advanced in terms of star quality and staying fully connected throughout the song even compared to a year ago. They ought to be able to apply that to multiple tracks, including some with instrumentals that are a closer match to what's on radio here now. We'll see!
