Since I "found" LM in the summer of 2012, I have paid next to no attention to the Xfactor - mostly because I can't stand watching painful attempts from wannabe's and mostly any winner's follow up works don't appeal to me..

However - prompted by some posts here, I decided to watch Saara Aalto's audition. . . . I am really quite impressed.

So I will be watching XF this weekend for two - or is it three ?? - reasons - Then I might catch up with the rest of her performances..

I'm with you on that one. They have the Xfactor.
This show should be axed, it's damaging the music market and giving false hope to candidates. I do not watch it, I do not support it.
I only catch up whenever LM is on, via YT links.

You are so right I wish I could kiss you!

Candidates get the sense that because they reach Top 5 on the show and have had the judges and producers of the show blow steam up their butt for months, they are deluded into thinking they will instantly become the world's next superstar. All we have to do is look at a lot of the past contestants especially the ones who had no originality or real sense of artistry to begin with.

I don't think any of the current finalists have what it takes no shade.

I'm not going to dispute the attitude of some contestants but do you really think that the XF is responsible for the whiney, snowflake generation of music that populates the upper regions of the chart these days?

That should be, four reasons.

Does anyone know, is The Weeknd any good as a performer? And where is ol Charlie?

Love Saara, I hope she becomes big somehow, maybe in musical theatre.
I can definitely see her on the West End.

I agree. I think most candidates on XF these days are very realistic about things, because they read all the articles too. Sam Bailey for example said she only went on to pick up better gigs, and was shocked when she won. My issues with the XF are mainly the often negative manipulation, the lack of variety in what the contestants do (basically awards show performance equivalents every week), and the fact that I don't necessarily agree with Cowell's priorities in acts past his basic assessment of star power.

I am skeptical of this crop as well. I still think 4oD could be coachable into something decent (yes, really) but they need a ton of work. Saara has an amazing voice but only addresses the song directly sometimes, other times she slips into being overly theatrical and just riding her vibrato. To repeat myself, don't skip her Winner Takes it All performance... that one was about a lot of things.

I think the main current push in anglophone pop & rock music is towards more "authenticity" as the internet has thoroughly exposed the manufactured elements, but the end result is something a bit drab and really no more genuine. It's really about how the artist approaches the song, whether they are willing to put themselves on the line and be present and open, far more than the tone or how many cooks were in the kitchen. Kids being kids though, they will attempt to find easy signifiers.

Jade's delivering a smackdown on Twitter.

He said he was quoting someone else, without quotes, and then proceeds to call her a moron. Shades of "I'm asking for a friend".

She said she`s moving to the UK permanently after the XF, if she wins or not. Make it broadway and i`ll be happy.

Yeah, I was listening to a couple of songs from the top 10 and thinking if I had heard the song about 20/30 years ago I would have said too 'complex' for a chart song, some interesting modulation in the sound and vocals. But now I think it is actually music by numbers and all the songs have more or less the same drab tone and structure. They also have little to say and when they do, it's on the back of a nursery rhyme level chorus (Cleanbandit) and the songs sit around for weeks atop the charts!

That's why LM sound so much better. They are in your face at times or saying '**** it, let's dance' or just having fun. And they've done that with two very diverse, very successful albums now.

Admittedly, Beyonce's 'Lemonade' is the most authentic record this year.

And this is why she is my favourite. She may be more quiet than the others girls but she really is the queen of shade, gives no f**ks and makes me laugh when she stands up for herself. I loved her response to the person who made a comment about her admiring RuPaul. That was absolutely ace!!

I think Louis performance will so emotional given light of recent events. What do you guys think of Zayn and Taylor Swift duet for 50 Shades? I think it's a bit of a let down after Earned It and Love Me Like You Do.

I really really wanted Leave Me Lonely by Ariana Grande from her DW album to be the lead single for the movie - it has 50 Shades written all over it.

Will be tough for LM to get the number 1 spot but I'd rather they shift lots of albums and get that platinum quicker

XF finalists singing SOTME

Ironic, it was Little Mix this time five years ago http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/...20140610065234

Apparently, Zayn is at the final tonight.

Yeah, underwhelming - Taylor really doesn't do sultry effectively - but just good enough to still be a hit given the names involved.

5/5 1D at Wembley right now. Making me a little emotional and they're not even my group.

Well, you need the simple chorus so people can easily remember and sing along. Not like LM songs are super complex. But you can imbue pretty simple lyrics with a lot of meaning by your performance. Perhaps even different meanings on different nights.

I agree on loving the fun on LM albums. I would like to see the mainstream move back that way a little. 5 years ago maybe it got to be too much, a bit like eating candy all day, but I'm really tired of dark depressed videos. Even if it's been a messy year, how about some positivity for still fighting the good fight. Give us something to believe in.

Don't sleep on the new J. Cole album if you want a big dose authentic btw. I think the hip-hop community is having less problems navigating that issue than the pop & rock communities.

Or perhaps a Little Mix and Daft Punk collab?
