Pushed down by 9 George Michael and 3 Wham tracks ahead of it, so still doing really well.

I looked through their career on Wikipedia. Looks like they had 2 albums (over 7 years, somehow!) with the initial lineup. One member left after DLG and they slid pretty fast commercially from there. Their first album was their biggest. They did set themselves up an ensemble but I'm not sure how much they really clicked with each other as a group.

In other pop group news, Japanese boyband SMAP just finished their 28 year career. Impressive longevity (the all time record?), though afaik they're only quitting because they took on their label and lost, and the Japanese system is a quasi-monopoly that blacklists such groups aggressively.

I hope that wasnt what Kelly meant by "they're a touch away from En Vogue".

I still replay those Week 6 comments along with Week 7. History in the making.

Nice ad for the Brits featuring the girls.
https://twitter.com/brits/status/813...379136/photo/1

The use of them for the Brits makes me think they will be involved somehow but I hope they dont cancel on MSG. That would be damaging to the US fans.

Whatever happened to the "Little" announcement?

You need to stop listening to so much Asian pop. U2 are 40 years into their career, same four guys still going strong.....30 years after The Joshua Tree...

The closest in girl group terms to LM might be Sister Sledge 'We Are Family' and all that.

I've been wondering for months if there's some deal with them. They've been randomly giving good morning tweets to LM since Feb. for no obvious teason until they showed up in Dec.

I saw this at BJ. Time to do some gift shopping.

My local HMV has the other 3 as part of 2 for £10 or £5.99 each so I bought all three!

Thats the beauty of building up the back catalog, endless reissues and packaging to come. I wonder if they'll ever do the old "artwork for each member, collect all 4" trick.

OT

Reading the other XF threads, the irony of LM being pilloried in 2011 for only shifting 210,000 the first week of their Winner's single. How times have changed.

I'm not listening in earnest to any jpop haha, just a couple of the new gen kpop groups. I'll try to dial back my mentions of it in here unless it's something I think is directly applicable to LM or their Asian tour.

It was a joke. You can mention what you like.

I just thought that your mention of 28 year old Japanese group who are virtually unknown outside Asia (big continent mind you) compared to a global band like U2 who have been going for 40 years was too obvious for me to avoid.

The relevance would be if Little Mix are still mentioned 20/30 years from now!

U2 are youngsters compared to the Rolling Stones.

I was thinking LM are the perfect mix of the Spices, GA and the Sats. They have the bond of the Sats, the longevity and commercial success of Girls Aloud and the authentic flag bearer of girl power like Spice Girls with some control of their careers.

LM also have the goodwill of the public so barring mishap I can see a successful 25 year reunion in their future. The 10 yr old fans some like to sneer at will be perfectly primed for a reunion tour and able to pay this time.

The Stones have original members but not the original lineup. I was a Stones fan in the 70s, changed since.

LM haven't quite got the originality of the Sugababes just yet but the rest yeah.

The stones are more medical experiment than group these days though.

I have to say, I think LM have barely begun, they have a lot to say and do before they get to the reunion stage. I think their best work is still ahead of them.

I didnt realize that about the Stones!

Keith Richards is a testament to advances in embalming.

I agree about LM. I dont know if its been by accident or design, but they have continually been building up credits to be parlayed for goals later. Now that they are really commercially successful they can redeem those for artistic experiments.

Bill Wyman left them in the 80's I think, and of course, the guy who formed them, Brian Jones, he died in 1969.
