Even Girls Aloud?

There was a huge amount of hype for their first song, as it was the culmination of the TV series and a battle with the boyband. But beyond that, I really can't remember the same kind of interest in the band.

The press has a lot of interest in Cheryl and Kimberley as well, but not the band so much. I mean, their 4th album I think launched somewhere outside top 10. They were major music stars, of course, but this is a different level. New music from them wasn't an event like it was with the spice girls.

This feels like an event.

4th UK #1! So pleased for them!

Only the third time this year a song went to #1 on it's first week! Zayn and Major Lazor being the other two.

I would say this is the best of the four what with it being so unexpected and the fact that they had to rely on getting heavy streaming aswell.

If they had 28,000 streaming points from just 4 days, what will a full next week bring?

I can see this equalling Black Magic's 3 weeks as once you hit #1 in the streaming age the momentum keeps you there for weeks.

It must be regional then, still showing up at #19 for me here in the US. I thought that was awfully low considering the view count.

Previously No.1 with debut single Cannonball (2011), follow-up Wings (2012) and Black Magic (2015), Little Mix score their fourth chart-topper with Shout Out To My Ex storming to the chart apex on sales of 95,273 copies (including 28,360 from streams), despite being on sale for less than five days.

It is only the third song thus far in 2016 to debut at No.1 emulating Major Lazer's Cold Water (feat. Justin Bieber & MØ) which did so in August, and Zayn Malik's debut solo hit Pillowtalk, which did so in February. Malik is allegedly the person being dissed in Shout Out To My Ex.

Their 17th hit in all and their ninth to make the Top 10, it is taken from Little Mix's upcoming fourth album Glory Days, and is the 42nd No.1 by an act or collection of acts to come to fame on The X Factor. The competition's 2011 winners, Little Mix dethrone 2012 winner James Arthur, whose Say You Won't Let Go ends a three week residency at No.1 by falling to No.2 - albeit on sales of 92,068 copies, the highest for a runner-up for 10 weeks.

Shout Out To My Ex is the ninth new No.1 to have emerged thus far in 2016 - the lowest number at this stage of any year since charts were introduced more than 60 years ago.

1 Little Mix 95,273 66,913 28,360
2 James Arthur 92,068
3 The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey 61,186
4 The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk 58,879
5 Hailee Steinfeld & Grey feat. Zedd 44,705
6 Sia feat. Kendrick Lamar 40,899
7 Ariana Grande feat. Nicki Minaj 39,799
8 Calvin Harris 39,397
9 DJ Snake feat. Justin Bieber
10 Bruno Mars 36,721

Its a notable fact that this is the first time an XF winner has dethroned another, but isnt that down to the history of previous winner's careers falling down the cliff over time? LM is the only winner to be ascending this late in the game.

They are still outselling #2 JA by 2.5:1 at this moment on iTunes.

@simonjonespr: Incredibly #LittleMix have sold over 200,000 tickets in less that 10 hours for their The Glory Days 2017 Tour. One year in advance! 👊🏻

Wow👏🏼

I just can't believe that there has only been NINE new no 1 s this year. Considering we are nearly in November. Streaming has just killed the charts imo.

Congrats to LM though! Well deserved no 1!! Great catchy song that a lot of people can relate to.

What's crazier is this is the first female #1 for 2016! I guess thats because the other big names underperformed? Or what? I thought solo female artists dominated the Pop charts?

The Sugababes had a tremendous period between 2003 to 2007 with no 1 singles and albums which would be at a similar level to Little Mix. I don't think you have to go all the way back to the Spice Girls.

U.K. CHARTS: SYCO ARTISTS SCORE FOURTH WEEK AT #1

Simon Cowell and Sonny Takhar's SYCO is enjoying a good run with pop singles in Blighty, notching up its fourth consecutive week at the top thanks to Little Mix (pictured). “Shout Out To My Ex” has topped the U.K. Official Singles Chart on 95k combined sales after just over four days on sale.

The song, which was released Sunday after Little Mix’s X Factor performance, has scored the biggest opening week download sales for a #1 this year with 67k. It's the third track to debut straight in at the top following Zayn’s “Pillowtalk” (RCA) and Major Lazer's “Cold Water” (Because).

Spots #2-4 on the singles chart are predictable, with James Arthur’s “Say You Won’t Let Go” (SYCO) down to #2, ending its three-week tenure at #1, The Chainsmokers f/Halsey’s “Closer” (RCA) at #3, while The Weeknd f/Daft Punk’s “Starboy” (Island) also moves down a place to #4.

That is somewhere between £8 million and £10 million revenue in a day.
