I remember people's reaction to Hair when it was an instant grat. It didnt become that good IMO until they added Sean Paul and reworked it, so nobody should be looking back with rose tinted glasses to that example. The pajama party video was cute at the time though.

Yeah the key change was a bit weird

Exactly! This is a Meghan Trainor song. Were people expecting lyrical greatness from an artist who's biggest hit and one of the best selling songs in recent years goes:

Because you know I'm all about that bass,
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass

Yeah that's true, I wasn't feeling Hair much. This might be a usable single if they could figure out how to lessen the repetitive bit on the verses and give it more forward momentum, but they aren't going to be able to do anything about the lyrics.

I wouldnt even worry, not every song is going to be a single. Just accept it as an album track for now.

I saw a lot of US radio stations (ok it was the iHeart chain repeating the same thing) saying that the Charlie Puth duet was the one they were looking forward to (hyping up) so not Trainor at all.

People on music forums being over dramatic, as usual.

ok but Hair's reception wasn't nearly as bad, I tried to listen to this about 10 times already and couldn't finish it in any of them, the fact this isn't a deluxe track scares me a bit, hopefully they're just pandering to Meghan because if that was based on quality.......... after sitting on it, it's easily the worst thing they've ever released to me

Of course they were pandering to Meghan. The girls are far too nice, they probably didn't want to come across rude.

idt it's worse than Clued Up or Word up tbh

i actually kinda like it tbh, for what it is- the girls clearly like her for some reason none of us can understand and the lyrics are horrible but it's a nice background track you don't listen to for the lyrics

I hope a bunch of fans arent getting distracted trying to stream this instant grat for no purpose when SOTME is the one that needs the effort.

I really want the girls to work with Zedd or Calvin Harris. Tbh I can't stand Meghan that much and think she is massively overrated. I also wish they worked with Ilya and Savan (they've written some INCREDIBLE songs for Ariana).

I mean imagine if Side to Side was LM's song.

I'll take that over You Gotta Not any day. The chorus is huge and Nicki's presence makes it even better.

Preach!!! It's just an incredible song. Very RnB/Pop with a bit of reggae sound and Nicki's verse is everything. My favourite song this year.

I'm not sure but he is an incredible song writer - for Ariana anyway. He's given her 7 top tens on the Billboard Hot 100

I'm listening on NZ Spotify (just woke up and it was the first thing i checked lol).

Definitely a V E R Y Meghan Trainor style song.
I don't think it's 100% awful, I doubt it'll be a fave for me but it's one that will get stuck in my head I won't even deny it.
