Its like Tania but with GR rather than the T. I should know...it's my name ☺

um okay lol. I'm basing it on what I searched using google, and I came across this article, as well as this website. I gott he impression that it's more of a stretched 'o' sound that long 'a' sound.

Judging by what we saw in the candy task, Grainne does seem like one of the more level-headed, normal and relatable candidates, and they always seem to fly under the radar in the first few episodes while the bigger personalities dominate the edit. Hopefully she'll volunteer to be PM soon, so we can see what she's capable of.

Huh? No, I'm Irish (as in born and bred) and it's never been anything but Grawn-ya. I've met countless Gráinnes and they have all pronounced it that way. I've never heard it pronounced like Tania with Gr instead of T. There is an á in the name which is pronounced 'awe' - Gráinne.

Yes, yes there is, as me and parthy have both outlined above? It etp wants to pronounce Gráinne as 'Grania' then that's absolutely fine, but it's incorrect. There's a fada over the a, which makes 'Grania' completely wrong. As parthy said, á produces an 'awe' sound. The Irish word for love is grá, pronounced 'graw', hence Gráinne is pronounced Grawn-yeah. Not trying to cause arguments here, but it's a very simple name and there's only one way to pronounce it. Anything else is incorrect.

Why has society been brought up in such a way that there's always a set way of saying/doing things? There was a time when I tried holding chopsticks like a knife and fork because I didn't know any better, then people were like "you can't do that" just because it's not the traditional way of eating with them. Why can't people just be themselves and have creative freedom in what they say or do rather than being restricted by social norms? When someone runs onto the street naked, society frowns upon that, but I think they should be allowed to do it if it makes them happy and doesn't harm anyone - let them be free who to who they are. So if someone calls themselves Grania and pronounces the name wrong, people shouldn't give them a hard time or give in to the norms of society and pronunciation.

Also, that poster said "LOL no, Irish people don't pronounce it that way" which is incorrect. People in Ireland pronounce it exactly the way that poster said they don't. Now, that poster can pronounce her name any way she likes but she doesn't get to decide how people in its country of origin pronounce it. You are telling people not to judge her on how she pronounces her own name. That's fine. But she is wrong about how people pronounce it in Ireland and there's nothing wrong with correcting that. After all, SHE was fine with correcting people herself!

Yea i see your point. My remark was aimed at society in general in how it has brought us up as individuals who can be pretty judgmental, a lot of "political correctness" limits people's freedom of speech and action and language is no exception.

Yes I agree. I will probably need to watch back also on the other guy she brought into the Boardroom. I missed the first two episodes but want to see what she meant by his ranting/losing it on the shop floor.... apparently he's now toned down a little?

he's definitely not as brash as he was before, but the other candidates are still wary of him, i'd say. it's more pronounced in the second episode, which was the major reason why he was brought back into the boardroom.

Monobrow man has really calmed down now. To bring him back was a bit stupid.

He would have been better on the shop floor. Unless I missed it when has he exploded in front of customers. He had a huge fallout in one of the episodes but that was all in the back office.

He would have been good schmoozing with the customer. It would have worked I think.

Granary has gone down a bit in my estimations. I can't believe she was unsure about bringing Muchai back.

She was disappointing as PM. Very disappointing.
