Do you switch off roaming data on your mobile when not in use?

Help solve a dispute in the office, some say yes, some say no, what do you do?

When you are not using roaming data services on your mobile phone, do you disable data?

I pay for my general data with Three’s 3-2-1 sim and turn all data off overnight while I sleep as I find it pointless paying for information at this time about the weather or the buses running late even at a penny a Mb. I’m what you call a tight sod.

Data roaming is always off.

Would it not be using the WiFi from your router in a home environment?

That’s turn off too unless there is App updates to do.

What's the point of leaving it on?

Roaming data services are only needed when you go outside UK!

If you mean turning off data services, then that is different as you can use data eg updates etc but generally quite small. I am on an unlimited data plan so I never switch it off.

Seriously, you actually turn your router off?

Are you actually asking about data roaming (use of mobile data outside the UK), or do you mean mobile data (data over the mobile network, not WiFi)?

Personally, I don't turn either off.

No, only the wifi on the mobile phone.

I have security cameras running here 24/7 that require access to the router at all times though on the local network unless I'm away from home and the home broadband is unlimited so not worried if Windows computers or Android tablets or even my 4 wifi streamers update themselves using countless Gb's while I sleep..

Nope never turn data off, but I've always gone for generous data allowances -- indeed much of the last (more years than I can remember) it's been three "all you can eat" so I really don't care. Keep life simple, things just work. Overnight is when iCloud backups, whatsapp backups and other things happen too.

Why?

My VoIP is connected to my router so I can not turn it off even if I wanted to.

As for data roaming, I never had it on, so I can not turn it off. I have not been out of the country for a while, so no need to have it.

Data always on.

Data Roaming always off.

Wifi - Mixture of on/off as my mobile data is often better than adsl.

No, I don't bother turning them off and I NEVER turn off my router. When at our home on Gran Canaria I use a local sim card (back there shortly )

So why turn the WiFi off on the phone at night?! Makes no sense. Surely it's better to let it auto-update itself overnight when it's charging than at some point in the day when you're actually using it?!

Then you wouldn't even need to go through the hassle of turning your data off at night.

Why not just switch the phone off completely overnight? I do every night.

Mobile data is always on and data roaming is too. Rarely use WiFi ever on mobiles.
Though I know people who are on 500MB data plans who turn data off whenever they lock their phones, and then turn it on when they unlock their phone to check notifications, then data off, lock phone etc.

Why would you even care about roaming, on or off, if you are in 99% the UK? I did have an issue when I was with crappy VF at work as it would connect to an Isle of Man network. If you are in Kent or near the border with the RoI then you will face a similar problem. But if you are in Swindon? Or Inverness?

No, I never turn my mobile data off.

I'm not sure why all our answers will help "solve a dispute" in your office though. People either turn it off or they don't, surely there isn't anything to dispute?!

Just to clear up confusion, I'm pretty sure OP has called mobile data "data roaming", even though this is a different thing. My aunt does the same, for some reason.
