It's a bit of fun, I think. Ten times better than that trainwreck that was Around the World Week.

The make-up can get you voted off. I remember Scott Mills wearing a 'bald' wig that made him resemble Jake Wood, it looked like JW danced twice and SM not at all. The result was that Jake Wood received not only his own but some of Scott's votes - and Millsy went home.

I record the show every week , I cut out all the waffle and just watch the dancers, I even FF one or two of them. Imho SCD is nothing like it used to be....
For the first time ever I'm recording then watching on catch-up and usually I have caught up just as the live show is finishing/finished so still have time to vote

Will come in handy even more for Halloween week!

I like Strictly Halloween, ever since Nancy Dell'Olio stepped out of the coffin. Almost as much as I like putting Imperial Leather in sweet wrappers for the trick-or-treaters.

Find the music is more often only tenuously related to the theme, getting worse as the years go by.

C'mon now, the whole show (and talent show genre) is pretty naff what's another theme night between pseudo-serious dancing weeks?

Loathe. But I'm getting used to TPTB shoe-horning themed dances in every week, so what difference another "scary-ish" one. I'm waiting in eager anticipation for when they announce "This episode is just dancing, plain and simple. No wigs, no harnesses, no plastic animals, no school lockers" etc etc. But I guess the multitude of staff employed to do these things cannot be idle, heaven forbid another scandal. "Disgusted from Tunbridge Wells is extremely angry that their licence fee is being squandered on excess minions on the Strictly Come Wotsit dance thingy show"

Some years it works others it falls flat, last years was terrible, 2014 was great because of Frankie's Wicked Tango and 2011 we had Holly's swan lake AS those are the two that stand out the most.
That AS of Holly & Artem's was one of those open mouthed "can I believe I've just seen that" Strictly moments as up until then I had been disapointed with them!!
They never hit the same heights again but that routine & execution were truly fabulous!

One of my all time favourite Strictly dances!!

Rearding hallowe'en week, love it!!!!!

I enjoy the spectacle and the cheesiness, but I sometimes wonder about the hypocrisy. Nowadays we won't hunt animals for their pelts and even trophy hunting is considered pretty crass, but it's A-OK to trap dozens of glittery tarantulas and hack the hands off of countless glittery skeletons just to give one evening a bit of razzle dazzle?

The main problem, for me, is the music.

There are simply not enough songs that fit the Halloween theme and are appropriate for the dances, so we get some kind of mix of a) songs with extremely tenous "spooky" links; b) repeats; c) songs that are not the right tempo etc for the dance being performed. Although that last one isn't exclusive to Halloween.

All that aside, I'm ok with theme weeks as a concept, it's just they often are hard to pull off. It comes across as some couples being lumbered with awful concepts and others gifted with great ones, which is both frustrating and leaves ample room for viewers to start throwing around accusations of favouritism.

I won't get into the favouritism thing here, except to say it's interesting how people can have such different perspectives on who is being treated as a favourite!

I get the impression that the themed weeks, especially Hallowe'en. are opportunities for the producers to get rid of contestants who've served their purpose by giving them costumes that make them ugly and are impossible to give a good performance in.

Don't ask for examples, I'm too old to remember anything - hence "I get the impression"

Love it. It's some slightly ridiculous fun and adds something different to the show. Tbh I like the theme weeks - they don't do too many of them to be annoying and most of the themes are broad enough that anyone can fit their dance into it.

I'm more annoyed when on non-themed weeks we get ridiculousness like Ed doing an AS to Amarillo!

I LOVE it. It is my favourite week. My least favourite, and I'm waiting for the howls of protest, is Film/Hollywood week. Thank goodness it has past for this year

I'm not a fan, the theme takes over and the dance quality is usually lost.

The tarantulas were kicked off the internet;apparently they don't contribute to the web.

The skeletons make no bones about it unless you rib them.

I think your theory is incorrect.
Inho SM went home because he was truly awful whereas JW was fairly good.

I like the Hallowe'en Show.

I don't think this is borne out by the results. If you look at the twelve celebrities who've been in the Bottom 2 on Hallowe'en Week, only Rachel Riley and Scott Mills really had heavily themed costumes/make-up and only Scott's made him look ugly. And let's be honest, Scott's not an ugly man but he wasn't there because he's a catwalk model. If anything I think the opposite is true - the bigger the transformation, the more likely you are to be safe.

Perhaps it leads to elimination the following week though.

Halloween week is a favourite of mine, look forward to it.

Scott Mills was complete shite, which was probably more the reason why he went out.
