I do love Dolly's original version over Whitney's but Dolly's isn't the slow ballard-y tempoed version that Whitney's was, which was why I wondered why they were referencing a German (I think she is) singers cover of Whitney's cover!

Exactly, I can only assume it's because of Licensing reasons, i.e. it's cheaper to "cover" the Streza version.
