In previous years applications for Sewing Bee have opened at the end of September/beginning of October with the closing date at the end of November.

So far no information on a next series is available, so I emailed the BBC. This is the reply I got this morning:

"Thanks for getting in touch.

There isn’t any word just yet on if the programme will be back for a fifth series I’m afraid. The best thing to do is keep an eye on the programme and BBC Media Centre websites for any future updates:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03myqj2

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre

I’ll cross my fingers that it is renewed!

Thanks again for contacting us."

Whether or not it has anything to do with the break down in relations over Bake Off, who knows. We'll just have to carry on waiting to see if there will be a new series or if the only programme on mainstream TV for us sewing enthusiasts had been consigned to the scrap heap.

Shame. I have only watched the last two series and I'm hopeless at sewing, but I had started to really enjoy it too.

It seems like the rights are owned by love productions so i don't expect much love between them now.

They were late announcing Series 4. We'll see. I didn't enjoy Series 4 as much anyway.

Applications for series 4 (2015) were being taken between 26th September and 8th November 2014. Series 3 (2014) were during February and March of the same year.

The BBC still hasn't made a decision on whether or not they're going to have a series 5, and because relations between Love and the BBC are so bad now that Love have refused to make a Bake Off for Comic Relief, I'm pessimistic about the likelihood of there being a series 5.

That doesn't sound very good Janet, I was wondering when it was due back on. I enjoyed the pottery one too so I expect that will be the same.

The pottery one has already been filmed so that should be broadcast..

I think you've got the years wrong, but other than that I'll take your word for it.

Will be interesting to see what happens. Maybe the BBC will use this to get their own back. Sewing Bee was never as big as the Bake Off, so they might not see it as too big a loss.

Taken from Love Productions web pages.

The BBC might not see it as a loss, but those of us who sew will. There are plenty of cooking shows, but this was the only one for sewers, apart from demonstrations on craft selling channels.

OK, then they've got it wrong because series 4 was definitely shown this year.

I don't sew, but I did enjoy this show.

Sorry, yes you're right. Series 4 was shown this year - I'm living in the past and was a year out. Again apologies.

No need to apologise. I was just a bit confused. I refuse to believe it's 2016 anyway and I will remain 29 forever. Fingers crossed we hear something about Series 5 soon.

Interview with Patrick Grant. This doesn't look good for Sewing Bee.

Perhaps the relationship between the BBC and Love Productions has gone completely. They have filmed the Pottery Show Down, but no mention of when it will be shown.

Thanks for the update Janet. I can't see the BBC giving love productions and further commissions, I wonder if CH4 will pick it up as they seem to do ok with Kirstie's craft shows.

Thanks for all the info from me too, Janet.

I've not been around for a while, so I've only just seen this thread.

I will be so, so, disappointed if it is abandoned, as there just aren't enough art/design/craft programmes around. And as said above, it doesn't sound hopeful.

Bah!

I keep checking the Love Production web site, but they don't update often. They're still going on about Bake Off going to Channel 4 as their latest news but have opened the application process for it, presumably hoping to air a programme in 2017 - if the BBC will waive that part of the contract which stops them doing so until 2018.- but there's no mention of programmes for 2017.

That's a shame. I can't sew but I enjoyed this programme. I am really not loving Love Productions at the moment.
