The attitude in this thread stinks. Storms in May? Really? The articles you gave especially the one of a super cell storm in May is just ridiculous and is an article exaggerating. Also it would be quite lazy and not very adventurous since Emmerdale has had a few storms in it's time. The spoilers sound great but the whole situation of a storm is just stupid. It's been done many times before and a blackout? Yes they do happen but it's hardly 1940 is it.

Blackouts DO happen, in July 2015 for example "up to 40,000 properties in the north-east were left without power after the violent storms struck." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-33360867 Quote:

Oh here we go, yet another one. Emmerdale has had two storms yes, one in 2003 and one in 2014. No reason why Corrie can't do one too.

Like I said they DO happen but it is 2016 it is less likely to occur now and it's been done times before on Corrie and other soaps and it is not original we don't need thousands of articles from you. Storm + Blackout = Lazy done before. The rest of your idea is great. To be honest you don't even need the storm for your idea. Jack could easily run out the Rovers anyway so the storm has no significance there and I cant see where else is does as well.
![]() And a storm is far less frequent than car crashes, explosions, fires. Only 2 storms in UK soap history. The storm is simply a way to cause the scaffolding collapse, and the blackout is for atmosphere and nice shots of the community in candle-light and huddling together waiting for the power to come back on. And you say "it is 2016 and less likely to occur". I just posted a BBC News article about 40,000 homes in the north losing power LAST YEAR due to a storm. If that doesn't cancel out your point I don't know what does. The articles are simply to prove that both storms and blackouts do happen, both at this time of year and full stop. |

Blackout hasn't been done on a soap has it?

There have been blackouts on Corrie before. Not sure what episode it is but there is 1 where they are all in a candle lit Rovers. Rita and other characters are singing.
I'm saying it hasn't. And I'm saying both storms and blackouts are far less done than explosions, fires and crashes. |

When you made this thread did it occur to you others may have different opinions because every time someone has said something you don't like you become rude and shove a link to an article in your post.
H of de Vil disagreed with aspects of my idea but actually referred to relevant points. I didn't get annoyed about that. You have simply said my attitude stinks for suggesting a storm and blackout because it's unrealistic, despite my attestations it's not as unrealistic as you think (and providing evidence to recent real-life scenarios). |

Yes that is true. But instead why doesn't Corrie think of something realistic but different that hasn't been done before. Blackouts and Storms that's been covered.
I think you're being difficult for the sake of it, and it's unnecessary. |

Soaps have been going nearly 60 years, there's little left that can be done for big set-pieces. Every disaster possible has been done. Corrie's set and setting also limit the number of disasters it can have. A storm COULD happen and a blackout COULD happen in Manchester, and provide an epic week of episodes and a backdrop for some stories. That's what I presented.
I think you're being difficult for the sake of it, and it's unnecessary. |

I am just giving my opinion. There doesn't need to be a stunt the Drama itself in my opinion would be great. Michelle having the baby and finding out about the secret. Jack going missing and all the other great ideas you have shown. In my opinion there doesn't need to be a storm a blackout a fire or anything.
The fact it's a storm heightens the drama of Jack disappearing as it's even less safe for him in the violent weather conditions. It sparks a desperate search which is made harder for the residents given the windy and rainy conditions. The freak weather also causes the scaffolding collapse at the builders yard, which is a catalyst for several stories combining in this location. It also makes rescue efforts harder. Not to mention it would visually seem more epic and special on screen. Of course soaps don't need stunts, but they are a big draw to some casual viewers and if I were in charge I would occasionally do one as a backdrop to storyline peaks. This one would be character led and also provide atmosphere, leaving other scenes with candlelit huddles of characters in the Rovers refuge while others battled to find Jack in the rain. It would be fine to do this without the storm and blackout, but the stunt would add to the tension and gravity of the week. |

Nice that's your opinion. But next time I try and state an opinion don't shove articles at me or others some people seem to have missed page 1 of this thread to see what I am talking about.

I'm going to publish detailed scene-by-scene descriptions of what happens in each episode to reveal what happens.
Without further ado, here is Monday 22nd May's episode:
Spoiler
Coming next: Distraught Billy walks into trap, Jack disappears before Kevin’s eyes, and the storm causes the power to fail across Weatherfield. |

Exactly.
Wouldn't be surprised if you're the same poster, you chat that much similar drivel. Mods, check the IPs. Well done, you've derailed my thread, no one is interested in my idea anymore, if they can even find them at all due to your trolling. Let me find your medals.
