I asked a local fishmonger about turbot as it keeps featuring on Great British Menu but i've never seen it for sale .
He was singing its praises but said brill is very similar.
Unfortunately he doesn't get either in very often.

It's a great delicacy, very expensive and rare. It's a large flatfish. Looking on the internet, people are asking £40-50 a kilo at the cheapest! So not a fish to fry for breakfast or batter with chips. Cornwall seems to be the best place to get it, but if you live far away from there you'd probably need to order from a specialist. There's a big premium for wild-caught over farmed as well, most of what you see will be farmed.

That's a ridiculous price. Restaurants must be paying a lot less than that otherwise they wouldn't be able to afford to put it on the menu.

Morrisons have turbot from time to time.

Turbot are massive. Size of a dining table.

It does seem strange me that some people here, who always seem to keep other posters in check in the Food and Drink forum, are surprised that restaurants can purchase food wholesale more cheaply that we can retail.

I presume you are referring to me. I said 'much' cheaper as food costs make up a pretty tiny percentage of menu cost.
