He was an older guy in Yorkshire living and working on a farm in the 80's and early 90's and people are shocked that he might not have been open minded and overly liberal back then. It was a different time end of story. |

None of this validates Robert's story at all.
It just proves that Jack could be violent on occasion. However, none of those clips show Jack hitting Robert after catching him getting close to a farm worker. |

And all that was seen on screen. Him belting his teenage son after he saw him in bed with a man was never shown never talked about hence its a retcon and never happened

LOL yeah it's a retcon we know that, but the point is that it shows a preoccupation to violence. The point many were trying make is that Jack would never have 'leathered' Robert, when in fact the video shows that he wasn't averse to giving him a punch!

Congratulations on ignoring the actual issue and making yet another thread about this showing the same video. A video which does not actually validate Robert's version of events despite the desperate attempts to make it so.

Punching an 18 year old for intimidating a 11 year old girl is very diffrent to beating a 15 year old over his sexuality.
The story isn't that far fetched. |

In your opinion. I had never ever been physically assaulted by my father until the day he found out he was gay at which point he punched me so hard I fell backwards off a chair.
The story isn't that far fetched. That is so very sad craig....... about Jack, I would have said he was a brilliant Dad, but after seeing those, he was not. I love my soaps and think I have not missed many episodes, but the facts are there on YouTube...... |

The story isn't that far fetched. However punching someone over the sexuality ( if he's 15 it's also child abuse ) is completely underserved and utterly repulsive. The story might not be far fetched in that a father being violent to his son for being gay is not unheard off, but e fact that Roberts and Jack lifes has been played out on screen and we never saw this would indicate is a pretty big retcon. |

But is this is point I was making. An 18 year old who gets punched for frightening an eleven year old girl ( his sister no less ) into silence, deserves to be smacked. They have no moral high ground.

It's a total retcon for Robert to be gay in the first place, and since his return many viewers have demanded an explanation. Now we have one, it just isn't good enough to some.
I think we would all have respected that more and have been moreforgiving. You can see all the young fans on Twitter squealing that they have read similar thing in their fan-fiction. That should be Maxine's legacy, "my writing is of a similar quality to teenage fan fiction". |

Didn't Jack punch Robert in this clip because he just found out Robert told Victoria not to say anything after seeing Katie and him together which resulted in Victoria not speaking at all for ages because of it?

Yes. Why does that matter? Are you suggesting some instances of physical violence are warranted?

I think it's because it paints a beloved character in such a negative light, I think everyone would have prefered it if they're were somewhat honest about it and should have just had Robert break the fourth wall and say "look the last producer was a sensationalist hack who wanted to put me with Aaron for shock value, as long term viewer knew me as a womaniser,.That is the way it is now, deal with it!".
I think we would all have respected that more and have been moreforgiving. You can see all the young fans on Twitter squealing that they have read similar thing in their fan-fiction. That should be Maxine's legacy, "my writing is of a similar quality to teenage fan fiction". There, sexuality explained, and in a believable way (I never got why some people had such a big problem with bi Robert to begin with). As far as his daddy issues go, they could have still played that card without the retcon, by simply showing how Robert had trouble accepting his sexuality because he was ashamed, and thought that his father wouldn't have accepted a son like him... he already had a strained relationship with his late father, who he felt rejected/unloved by in favour of Andy...acknowledging that he was into men would have worsened his feelings of inadequacy, therefore he fought it. There, no retcon needed, just Robert's issues playing with his head. I like Robron, a lot. But the writers have handled many things not in the best way. That said, I have no problems believing that someone like Jack (a farmer in rural Yorkshire in the 90s) wouldn't have reacted well to a gay/bi son. Retcons, however, are always a terrible idea, and I don't know why tv writers insist on doing them, instead of finding other more creative solutions with what they have going on in the present narrative. |

It'd pretty obvious this thread has been started solely to bait anyway

Wow these robron fans are desperate. The issue isn't Jack's violence, but instead is him beating up robert for being gay which NEVER happened and he never would've done. How many times do we need to go over this?
Also I find it hilarious that the robron fans try to make Jack out to be a bad person because he had a couple of fights, yet adore Robron when the pair of them are incredibly violent, and even worse than Ross for it. Hypocrites... |
