Jack doesn't come out of this retcon looking bad at all in my view but that is because he wasn't and hasn't been portrayed as a violent, homophobic, abusive thug who bullied anyone let alone Robert and he certainly didn't rape anyone

Too bad. Put it down to the fact that I did actually care a bit about the show's past, but don't worry, I don't now. If the showrunners don't, no reason why I should either.
Like I say, anything's up for grabs now. It doesn't matter what we've seen. Anyone can be gay. Anyone can turn out to be violent. Anyone can turn out to be a child abuser, including Robert himself. Or Aaron.
What I really don't get is this weird thing about making people Victims. Why is Robert being a Victim of lovely Jack's terrible beatings meant to make him more likeable? Same for Aaron? Having a sob story doesn't excuse anything we say or do, they're still horrible people. At least when Hollyoaks did this story first, they never tried to claim being abused meant Brendan Brady was anything other than a total bastard. The romanticization of victimhood is a really odd thing.
Anyway, it's done now. It's a shame, because one day, when Robron are long forgotten, people will still remember Jack.
