ED: Why was Dotty's Christening in another church?

I'm sure I've probably just missed it but can someone please explain why the Christening wasn't held in the village church.

Harriet explained last week that they had to temporarily close the church because of a wasps nest they had found.

It was part of the plot, to enable Ashley to be in a car. He thought he was late for the christening. It wouldn't have worked if it was the church in the village,

I was confused about the flashing clock in the bedroom at first then it dawned on me,it was to do with the power cut at the start of the episode. Every time Ashley looked at the clock he became confused. That is why he kept lying down to go to bed. It was really clever writing, Really understanding the mind of a person with dementia.

I actually watched the episode again, it is interesting all the little underplayed comments and signs that you miss. I had missed why Ashley had suddenly rushed out and into the car, then picked up on the note in his book reminding him the christening was at 12.15 and of course the clock was flashing at 12 :00. There really was a great deal of underplayed detail that added to the quality of the episode,

Ashley's story was really fantastic, the repetition, the sudden cuts, all added to the confusion that dementia suffers have.

I have to admit that last nights episode was my absolute favourite purely because (before the crash) everything was so understated. It had a certain honesty and IMO felt really true to life.

My heart absolutely broke for Ashley when he was talking to Arthur, the little boy who plays him is ridiculously cute and the actor who plays Ashley is so good that I really felt for both the characters.

I hate that they broke up Ashley and Laurel for that time, as I feel that she and Ashley are one of the very few believable couples in the village. They are genuinely in love and genuinely care for each other, I just know that Ashleys inevitable death is going to leave me an emotional wreck!
