Emmerdale was ridiculous last night!
I don't understand how so many residents of one small village can be on the same stretch of road at the same time. I thought it was way over the top. Also, how on earth did Aaron and Robert survive under water for so long?
And those daft scenes with Emma and James wandering through the fog. The whole thing seemed like a Stephen King horror story. |

Yeah it was ridiculous OTT soap nonsense which ED do on occasion but the second ep didn't do it for me like the pub siege/flooding a couple years ago did. Didn't enjoy last years helicopter crash either.

Regardless of how silly it was so many characters were in the same place the stunt itself was brilliant. Much better than anything Casualty has delivered in recent times.

It was very exciting, don't get me wrong, but I just kept thinking how unrealistic, and that spoilt it for me.

Lol Casualty, that's what ED is compared with these days? No wonder we have all these hospital visits.

It's to do with fate, sometimes soaps tend to go for a little more sophistication with their themes, hence why they were all on the same stretch of road heading home to Emmerdale village where they all live. Not that unfeasible but don't mistake fate for coincidence. |

As far as I remember Jack, he was far from being a saint. He did have a temper and sometimes punched first with out thinking, so its not beyond the realms that he might have struck out first

I think I've read more about Jack bleeding Sugden this week than I ever have. Lord have mercy, it's evading every thread. I'll stick to talking about Sarah Lou in Corrie threads for a while.

If I wanted realism I would look out the window.. maybe you should do the same. its also been commented on that 'how can so much happen in a tiny village'?... but does anyone really want spot on accuracy?.. there would be no drama, no story, no interest.. plus, why single out 'a tiny village' and not a 'tiny london square' or a 'tiny road up norf'? the populations of which are roughly equal and obviously dont reflect real villages, streets, squares. |

For me the problem with Robert's confession is that it was a retcon. If that happened in 2000 when Robert was 15 we would have seen it. The only farm hand on screen at that point was the one Sarah was shagging.
Though the way some people are going on they would think Jack was a saint and was beating Robert up on a regular basis. Robert said it happen once and that he knew his father was not normally like that |

Even away from the apparent "ridiculous" stunts etc, the acting was some of the best of any soap of the last few years.
Emmerdale is way ahead of the others at this point. |

Early 1990s, a city (population 80,000=) in the north of Italy, I found myself in a queue of cars at a traffic light and noticed that there was a colleague of mine in the car in front of me. It turned out that in the car in front of her were 2 other colleagues....
....luckily for us, nobody was pushed from a bridge as we collectively progressed forwards...

I live in a small rural village where there is not the drug/drink/stealing/violent fighting, etc., behaviour.. CONSTANT ADVERTS: WILL EMMA DIE, WILL JAMES DIE, WILL ROBERT DIE, WILL ASHLEY DIE blah blah blah....AD INFINITUM. Now we have will Chaity die as she is supposed to drive a car into a lake.......give me strength. We seem to be treated as though we only had two brain cells between us. Now we hear that Chrissie has decided to destroy her sister. Yep, destroy is the word that Emmerdale used.

I have no problem with the thought that Jack might have struck out at Robert if he had caught him with a guy. Jack always came across as a "strike first, think later" type of guy, so just because we never saw it on screen, does not mean it could not happen.
Though the way some people are going on they would think Jack was a saint and was beating Robert up on a regular basis. Robert said it happen once and that he knew his father was not normally like that Both characters were on-screen back then, and none of this happened. The farmhand mentioned in Robert's story did not exist. Nobody has a problem with what Jack may have done on the chance this story was real, but since both characters were on screen at this time and it didn't happen, it didn't happen. It's the same as people getting annoyed at Ross/Charity making a baby off screen, but on a larger scale. |
