Has anyone bought anything from Discogs?

I want to buy The Trojan Soul Sessions by George Michael. This was an album he was recording, but then there were the legal issues with Sony.

There are people selling it at Discogs, but if it was never released and shelved due to the legal issues how do they have copies of it?

it's a bootleg. there's a 3 disc set that has 2 discs of audio and a dvd of footage from the recording studios. the sound quality is good but it's mostly instrumental as the intention was for it to be a "duets" album that didn't credit george

if you look around the internet you may find somewhere to download it free. likewise LWP vol2. there's a bunch of perfect sound quality george outtakes taken from studio dats that are floating around

there's a couple of versions of that track. i don't know of any actual sites and couldn't mention them due to the forum rules. perhaps look at GM groups on facebook and you may get lucky, or soundcloud i know some fans post rare stuff. it may not be listed under GM so search for the song title or agean

i'm a big fan, have all the official stuff and a lot of unreleased stuff, but there is piles of unreleased stuff, mostly remixes and alternate mixes that were done and then they were shortlisted for release. not a huge number of fully completed songs you've not heard, most alternate versions of say the older album for example

Hint: if you REALLY want rare music on 'tinternet', you WILL find it.... I personally feel no angst about dl rare/out of print music. I actually feel i'm keeping the torch alive for their music, as generally the music I lean towards is 'niche' within the soul/funk/disco spectrum that nobody but a coupla hundred people like me are interested in.

Occasionally, a gr8 label like BBE will put a comp out which contains what I want &I will buy it to support the artists - & in my head i'm hoping that some royalties will trickle down to the originators of the song/music, thats if they're still alive...! The reality is, no big labels are interested in the music they hold in their back catagues - to them it is a unit to be sold.

Before anyone gets 'judge judy' on me, I do support those artists that are niche that are still around in the present - a good example for me would be Roisin Murphy - she's an absolute original worth THROWING my money at. However, if the Gaga's/Rhiannas of this world lose some profits, I really couldn't care a toss.

FB groups I will try, I don't know what Soundcloud is? I tried to download the song from a site, which then caused a Microsoft error alert, which is a hoax! And something disabled my security completely.


What do you think of him repackaging LWP, perhaps he could have included some unreleased songs on that??

Have you seen him live? Really wish he would release MTV unplugged on DVD.

What concerns me is whether or not these sites are safe, and I tried to download a track and my security was disabled.

I always pay for music, but when it's not available to buy what can you do?

I'd try the route 'Unique' mentioned above, its safer. And yes, my 'puter has taken a bashing in the name of rare disco...!

But what does one do, when one is after a rare slice of proto-disco from Timbucktoo that some greedy collector will sell for £400 on discogs??!!

i've seen him a few times, including the final 2 at earls court and live 8 so have 3 of them on dvd/bluray

the choice of unplugged on LWP is strange as it was promo for the older album. about half of vol2 has been released in one way or another but there's a few tracks that haven't so i was expecting/hoping vol2 to be the bonus material for a superdeluxe. the choice of unplugged is strange. it's nice to have the audio as an official cd but a dvd would have been better. there was a bunch of tracks that weren't broadcast so it would have been nice to get a recording of the full thing. there's even rehearsal footage that would have made good bonus material. plus there's the radio one "unplugged" show they could have added to make a superdeluxe unplugged dvd/bluray and cd box. i have an original PAL promo video on the virgin label of the unplugged show from back in the day (there's an NTSC promo too) so i suppose the rarity and value is higher as long as it's not officially released, but i'd rather have a nice official release

Yes, LWP 2 could have featured so much more, maybe one day he will release everything?

Would you have preferred him to have released a brand new album?

Also I read somewhere that he perhaps was looking into touring again, but insurance companies are very reluctant to insure him.

George has been a slow worker for decades now. he could have padded out between releases by reissuing more stuff before and adding unreleased stuff to it, but perhaps he has more than enough money to need to do that and simply doesn't want to release stuff he wasn't happy about using the first time around, but there's a pile of released non album stuff he could have put out. I suppose the 25 release had the bonus disc but there's just so much more

he's supposedly been working on a new album in a "dance" style for a while and I've heard for about the past year that it's been close to release. he did post a snippet online a few months ago, it was literally 10 seconds or something that sounded like any generic 90s style house music. with most artists, if asked whether I'd prefer something new or old the answer has to be it depends on how good it is. I'd rather have a great release of old classic unreleased music from an artists peak period than a new album that's shite. and as far as prince is concerned over the last 10 or so years I know he certainly had a lot better unreleased stuff that what he did release. I'm not sure it's the same with George though, so it's more a case of do you want a load of different takes and mixes of songs you already know, versions not felt good enough at the time, or a new album of new tracks that might not be that good. I'd perhaps chance a new album from George as he does take his time to put it together instead of chucking out a new album every second week like prince

I've not heard anything credible about him touring again. if he wants to do it I'm sure it will happen though. the sun and mirror usually have a story every six months about a wham reunion but I don't think that will ever happen apart from Andrew guesting at a George gig. Andrew didn't really do that much on the albums or in concert, it's more the choice of songs but George is embarrassed with wham rap and bad boys and some of the early stuff and has been for years, so I don't imagine him doing bad boys onstage when he's 60
