Corrie - The elephant in the room
Why are none of the Barlows questioning why Simon is half black?

I've always thought the same of Adam Barton in Emmerdale. Did Moira have yet another affair we know nothing about?

This has been discussed and argued about several times in the past. No-one knows the actor's actual parentage - it's never been said.
Because he's only 14 all there is is speculation, which could all be wrong because personal information about children in the media is rarely disclosed.. Could be from a previous generation and not his parents. |

![]() I've edited my post to say that personal information is rarely disclosed, so there's only speculation and it isn't actually anyone's business. |

Elephant in the room? could be seen as borderline offensive to some. The answer must lie in his heritage. As for complexion and race sometimes it isn't always clear cut
Its a perfectly legit question to ask. |

It's not a legit question because Simon is a character and you're getting personal about the person employed to act out the character.
You have to ask yourself why you even care enough to raise the question. |

You have to ask yourself why you even care enough to raise the question. I hope you aren't trying to imply I'm racist. |

Does it really matter? not all actors who play parts are the race they are supposed to be, and looks can be deceiving, take Rita Ora, whose parents are Albanian. http://i4.mirror.co.uk/incoming/arti.../Riat-MAIN.jpg
Perhaps you think he is black because he has tight curls? I think they chose him as he was such a cute little boy, that often changes at puberty. |

I hope you aren't trying to imply I'm racist. To call into question an actors race and name it 'the elephant in the room' is quite a thing. Simon is a confirmed Barlow so I honestly don't see the problem. I just don't understand the need to start a discussion on an actors skin colour - I really don't. |

I actually Moira and Adam look genuine as mother and son. The Moira actress herself is quite exotic looking.
Same for Simon and Peter, they are believable but wasn't Simons real mum fair skinned and blonde? |

Agreed Moira and Adam work as mother and son as Natalie is quite olive skinned, what made Adam stand out was the rest of his family, the sisters particularly.

Actually I think it is an issue. It is a case of bad casting. The young actor who plays him is getting darker as he gets older. I don't know what his ethnicity is and I don't care. I am not racist in any way. But he clearly does not look like the offspring of two white people. That is not being racist it is stating a fact.

Simon could have African/Afrocarribean ancestery. It is possible.

No it hasn't. Perhaps it's time it was to make his storylines more interesting.
Have his anger issues been properly dealt with? No doubt with Peter's return they will resurface. He has every reason to be angry but needs to learn new coping skills so that he does not act out inappropriately. I would like to see this dealt with once and for all. |

If properly and sensitively explored it could be a great storyline for him.
