A good dictionary for use with an Android tablet
I'm after suggestions for a good dictionary for use with my Android tablet. My specific requirements are:
1) It must be free. 2) It must be usable offline. The Oxford Quick Search that came with my Lenovo tablet only works online. Away from home I doubt if many people are willing to search out an internet connection in order to look up the meaning of a word! 3) It must be a British English dictionary, or at least be capable of setting British English as the default mode. For example, if I look up "theatre" in the popular Dictionary.com it finds it but only as an add-on to "theater", and the body of the text only uses "theater". Also, I imagine that all the pronunciations given are American. |

I have an android and always use my HB1* spelling checker. It beats auto correct and everything else too, as it usually avoids randomly changing sentences into nonsense**. Yes, it actually understands the context and is 100% British English!
*Human brain mark 1. ![]() ** Not everyone agrees with that statement! ![]() |
