I think DW going down the social commentary route is something I'd like the show to avoid. It escapism, I don't want it bogged down with it trying to be clever and make references to things such as immigration, terrorism etc - something I thought the Zygon two parter from last year did in a ram it down your throat kind of way.
IMO what you wish would just limit the show in a small box, when DW can be so varied why limit it, there's room for all types of story telling, there's room for fluff entertainment and there's room for entertainment that has a point to it if you read in to it what the writers have put in... Something can be escapism and have a point to it at the same time (and without hitting the audience over the head with said point) it just needs to be written and produced well... |

But it is a big part of Science-fiction/fantasy writing, always has been, and an effective one at that when done right.... If the show doesn't do stuff like that then it just becomes fluff.. there would be no meat to it, most drama is a commentary on society in some way so why wouldn't DW be....

It is above all entertainment and the wealth of options it has at its disposal without going into the route you suggest means it can have many different kind of stories regardless. |

Well I think that's a dumbed down approach to make DW toothless... but its all personal opinion...

Slightly off topic, but I did like Charlie's Halloween costume for Jonathan Ross' Halloween house party, he dressed as the traffic warden from 'Threads' (as featured on the Radio Times for that week).
http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-...loween-party-2 Now that's specific! |
