Do you think Emmerdale is in with a chance of winning the NTA?
I just voted on the long list for the NTAs and usually I would gave my vote to EastEnders but I gave it to Emmerdale this time around.
Do you think this might be the time it wins? it seems like Emmerdale has really turned a corner now. Everyone I know is talking about it. Its never been so close to EastEnders or Corrie in the ratings either. |

Well, it's been winning most things this year so possibly. I can't see what EastEnders or Corrie have to offer in the coming months.

Emmerdale has beaten EastEnders in the ratings loads of times - a lot of EE fans get rather annoyed when what they call 'the farm soap' beats it!

I find it quite amusing whenever ED beats Eastenders. ED is by far the best soap and it's a shame when ignorant people just pass it off as a soap about sheep, without ever having viewed an episode in their lives. I'm glad Emmerdale is getting this push to get it more noticed.
I wonder how good Emmerdale will be in a year under Hollyoaks sensationalist producer It's also been recognised aswell so the moaning about it been under appreciated can stop and to be honest all the show seems to care about now are awards rather than quality drama |

They probably will win. The 'Robron' fanbase will make sure of it. |

Isn't it more the clashes what annoy people?

Also I don't see what's wrong with calling Emmerdale a farm soap given Emmerdale's roots

Emmerdale has been the best soap for years.
For me its been consistently good since Cameron killed Carl in their Live show. |

Because it's a dated flippant view that bares little resemblance to today's product. It's usually voiced by those that don't watch it, or dislike. Danny Dyer used as a tongue and cheek dig in the past, I wonder if he still thinks it's the farm soap anymore

Its nothing to be ashamed of. It was known as Emmerdale Farm for over 20 years. Like sorcha_healy27 says being mad about this being referenced makes it sound like people are ashamed of the shows roots.
not by me I love that aspect of it its what makes it unique, but in truth since the plane crash in the 80s it's been known just as Emmerdale. The rural soap, but not the farm soap especially anymore

I love watching Emmerdale, not a 'big' fan but it is a very good show. I don't watch it live usually (apart from this week) so normally catch up (sometimes may miss an episode or two) but it's such a great soap. It always seems to have the right balance of drama and humour, and is almost consistently good, bar the odd dodgy period. They also do stunts the best as well, not that that's important. . Watching ED reminds me of the village I used to live in, it was more or less the same, just without all the drama. ![]() Quote:

I think the term 'Dallas in the Dales' is quite apt for the show, as that is what is. It's a fast paced soap set in a village in the countryside which sets it apart from the other soaps, this means they can have lovely sweeping shots of the countryside and it adds to the drama imo. |

How can it be a dated term about Emmerdale when there's still characters that work in farming in it either

. Watching ED reminds me of the village I used to live in, it was more or less the same, just without all the drama. ![]() For a while even the show tried to forget the first 21 years of history before the plane crash happened in 1993, but that seems to have been relaxed now. Thing is though, high drama has always been part of the show, even when it was called Emmerdale Farm until 1989. They had their first murder a few months after it started (which came about because of a character being stalked and then raped and strangled), plus stunts have also always been part of the show, like the caravan fire in 1982, Pat Sugden's Car rolling off a cliff in 1986 etc. The pace only really picked up in the mid 1980's when itv tried to make Emmerdale compete with EastEnders (by having lots of sex and high drama, still true today) and then again in 1993/4 after the plane crash and the village name was changed to Emmerdale. I wouldn't get offended at ED being called the 'farm soap' either, the farm element is still true, even if it is sidelined. Yeah I admit that's when it became brilliant for 2 years but turned to rubbish when Kate Oates decided to ruin everyone's relationship and personalities
