Daisy overmarked for her Charleston

Aljaz's choreography was amazing; very different to any Charleston I've seen before. However, I always thought the marks are for how the celebrity partner dances the choreography. After tonight, I think I must have it wrong!
Now I realise Daisy is tall, and that can be a hindrance in the Jive/Charleston, but her errors seemed to have little to do with her height. For a start, she had to keep looking at Aljaz as she couldn't remember the steps. That put her a beat behind at several points. Her swivel was none existent. By halfway through, she was blowing for tugs and that made her movements heavy and laborious. She had no character at all, and was really pretty poor. I was cringing, and waiting for her 4's and 5's and cruel remarks. But they never came. Why? What were the judges watching, 'cos it certainly wasn't that performance.
I get so frustrated because we are not stupid and we know a bad performance when we see one. To have them all raving, and not pointing out even the most glaringly obvious errors, is an insult. It isn't even about my own personal favourites before anyone says I just don't like her. I want the judges to be honest, and not for them to tell me black is white.

The judges aren't infallible. There were mistakes in Kimberley's Charleston and they gave it 40.

And they did point out how she fell away towards the end.

Can I criticise her hair? It wasn't her fault but it was awful.

I think people sometimes get too hung up on the actual scores and not the leaderboard. Sometimes I think certain people deserve higher/lower marks too, but I think most of the time, the leaderboard positioning is usually right.

okay, you have to phrase it diplomatically, like you are emissary from the Pope to Genghis Khan: "May I impart I suspect your hair stylist is not altogether worthy of you, your magnificence. May I suggest John Frieda, he's 3 for 2 in Boots"

I think with the Charleston the Pros tend to have other choreographers in, mainly as Pros don't actually do Charleston in their careers. When training footage used to be about actual training and not now silly VTs we used to get to see all these extra choreographers coming in to help with the dances that Pros couldn't do all themselves (like Argentine Tango, Salsa etc), but now we see very little training overall in the VT so don't always get to see those that also deserve credit for the routines alongside the Pros. Sometimes the Pros remember to say thanks themselves, but not always (it's easy to forget if panting away after a dance). If Aljaz did the whole thing himself then I'll stand corrected, but since the Charleston came in very few times have the Pros been the only choreographers.

As for Daisy, yes, she was overmarked, imo.
I thought lots were overmarked in general, too many 8s for some of them, so Daisy prob didn't get too much benefit overall seeing as plenty got a lucky points boost. Not enough 3s or 4s either, the standard, minus Danny and Ore was mediocre-average.

I just watched it back and it is definitely better on 2nd viewing.

Even then, I think it deserved no more than 7s all round.

Daisy was one of the more entertaining ones tonight I thought. I loved the start of it that was new and fun, after that it was fun, lively and a good routine. Livened up the night a bit. I've no idea what they scored tbh, the judges were all over the place with their mismatched scores and comments, some too high some a bit too low. I presume more to put them in their preferred order than anything.

Daisy is really enjoying the experience going from the grin she always has on her face, but I think she's been over marked most weeks.

I didn't think this Charleston was anything special.

I like Daisy, but her Charleston seriously wasn't great.

Great start but she was a bit ploddy. I thought the judges would rip it apart a bit but they seemed to love it!

I also thought it was overrated, but then I tend to think Daisy is overrated in general.

IMO tonight's scores were all about positioning them in the order the judges wanted them, i.e. their favourites at the top and those they don't take so seriously in the danger zone. There were some VERY generous marks tonight, Daisy not being the only one.

I thought it was strange Darcey saying that the dance suited her as I thought it didn't at all!

Completely disagree. She wasn't looking at Aliaz for the steps, you'll find she was in front of him at lot of the time and only faced him when it was necessary . Her timing was near perfect . If you pause it at any point in the dance you will see they match . I thought she entered into the character completely . Best dance of the night .

Aljaz won't have choreographed that, they get outside help for the Charleston, AT and Salsa. I personally thought the choreography was dire.

I think everyone except Anastacia was overmarked tonight, but I think Daisy ended up where I'd have expected her to be on the leaderboard, so in the grand scheme of things it didn't matter.

Her expression was off putting. Ore was the most over marked however

Daisy is very underrated on this forum. She more than deserved those marks.

I loved the opening in the dark and thought this would be a good dance for Daisy but then I saw the light.

I think the outfits made the mistakes, and slight differences in timing more obvious so the judges were probably fair.

I think when three judges say 8 and Craig goes 6 then you may have a point but otherwise... Are you a dancer?

I just accept I know sod all about dancing - Leslie and Anton looked alright to me (despite the fact I despise DuBeke) but I now realise they were not.

When I watched XF (way back), I felt I could disagree with the judges because they weren't singers themselves so had no more refined opinions than Joe Public.

When I read the BIB, I thought it was going to be a profound statement about acknowledge how the stylists can sometimes make or break the routine.

She suits fast dances. Her slow numbers don't do it for me.

I agreed with the judges. Of course, it's no surprise that some celebs are accused of being overmarked or undermarked depending on whether they are liked or not.
