Where are Kat and Alfie supposed to be at the minute? Given his medical condition would be playing a major part in their lives do Stacey and Belinda keep in touch?

Was the spinoff story ever made and I missed it?

When they left, they went in search of Kat's son in Ireland. The spin off (Redwater) airs some time next year. No idea if they're still in touch with Stacey and Belinda

I wouldn't be surprised if the spin off show is cancelled. It's been delayed for 2 years now.

The trouble with Redwater is, it's now been so long since Kat and Alfie left Walford, I no longer give a crap about it. It should have aired within months of their departure.

I don't know how they're going to run Redwater alongside events on the square with a view to Kat and/or Alfie returning. It does feel like it's been too long. One of the most annoying things about Eastenders is that off screen character don't get a mention. The minute they leave the show they cease to exist.

It was supposed to start airing just after they left walford last January.

I think that it has been a major mix up by the producers. They should never have had Kat and Alfie temporarily leave till they were ready to film then had them come back and leave again for it to be aired but then they couldn't do that because they were got rid of, the filming didn't happen and then the actors did that play when redwater should have been originally airing,

I think they have been treated really shoddily.

Plus its not really relevant anymore is it. It was a ret-con that Kat had a second baby and she can't be arsed to go look for it till over a year later. Why would he even want to know her after finding that out!

For such popular characters it really fells like Eastenders has dropped the ball on this one. Can you imagine Mick and Linda going on a break with a brain tumour and long lost son hanging over them and nothing being said for two years!

Particularly disappointing for me as I hate Alfie and finally thought we were going to be rid of him for good but if the illness has been forotten then a return is always going to be on the cards!

I totally agree, it's been left way to long. I couldn't care less about it now.

I think the point of nothing being said about the tumour or any mention of Kat & Alfie is their story will continue in Red water and will be playing out there, there gonna want some continuity, so them coming back now would be redundant to the series as it be two different time periods playing out.

We need to see what happens in Redwater in order for them to be able to return if that is the plan, although it seems unlikely imo, they could be waiting to see how Redwater goes as a series with potential for a second series, plus now the show has changed hands the promises made previous are void as both actors are out of contract.

Time will tell, I don't think BBC would waste money commissioning a series and filming it to not show it on some platform, even if it was just on the Iplayer.

I'm sure I read on another site that test screenings were not well received. It might explain why the BBC have yet to give an air date.

The whole Redwater thing is ridiculous.

Kat and Alfie had just got interesting with the tumour and lost son (despite the unnecessary retcon).

The Ireland episodes would've fitted in nicely with the main show. But then they dissapeared and we have to wait over 12 months for some thriller spin-off to commence? A spin-off which has a different EP to the main show? Just bizarre.

On another note, DTC's production company has bought Graham Norton's Ireland set thriller novel about sectrets in a small town. Remind you of anything?

I wonder if they're chasing June Whitfield and Whoopi Goldberg in Las Vegas who have hidden Secret Son in a choir.

Sadly I think the secret son aspect might have destroyed Kat. I really think when you **** with continuity that is well established and retcon it you are playing a dangerous game.

They could have just given Alfie a secret son and Kat the brain tumour. That would have worked just as good.

I quite liked the convent episode and the episode when Kat found out but yes it does feel like DTC and co vandalised one of EE's gold standard classics just because they could.
