So they've announced the title for the finale, which along with the other remaining episodes means we have
106 - Detained
107 - The Metaphysical Engine, or What Quill Did
108 - The Lost
...perhaps referencing the 'lost souls' in the cabinet which could get used in some shape or form once and for all?
Episode 6 is the one I've wanted to see for ages. It sounded interesting to start with, then the cast and Ness were really praising it, and then the trailer made it look good too. Again, my only problem with Class is its short duration - we're on the home stretch already but we only started this whole thing three weeks ago. It could really have used a couple more episodes to pack a more substantial punch... hopefully a second series gets that.

Idk why but the episodes of Class I've enjoyed the most are the ones without rhe shadow kin in them, like Episode 3 and also judging by the next time Episode 6. Its just that I don't really find them all that mennacing for them to be a series antagonist I thought they were just a one off in episode one. Compared to The Trickster and Slitheen, The Shadow Kin aren't really all that interesting to me, plus it doesn't help that at points I can't understand a word they're saying.

What is the "Doctor Who" feel though? There's a lot of shapes of sizes for Doctor Who. Torchwood resembled the RTD era at the most but didn't at all feel like, say, the 60's years, which in turn felt very different to the Hinchcliffe years, and so on.
Showing aliens from across the universe is all the connection it needs, I think. In tone, it's not all that far off from the parent show.

Not great, but a problem with TV in general rather than exclusive to Class. A show aimed at teenagers isn't going to make it without being full of really attractive characters.
When Pearl Mackie was announced as the next companion, her apparent lack of good looks was simply too much for some to handle, unfortunately.
Just caught up and thought episode 5 was enjoyable enough; a bit clunky in places plot and dialogue-wise, particularly the April/Ram stuff. There was a lot of time for character moments and plot based exposition during action scenes! (Especially the prolonged fight between April and the King.) The break in the 'connection' just sort of happened. Because the King was in a dungeon?
Still, I enjoyed it well enough and it was a diverting 45 minutes. Really liking Dorothea; the actor's pitching it just right. I assume we're building up to a 'reveal' regarding The Governors. UNIT get a name-check by her, so what the heck are they?

Oh I know the score in these cynical times. I just find it grimly amusing that even on a show where they have openly declared their intention to purposefully make sure that it is inclusive and representative of everyone that it seems rather than race, sexuality or gender, in fact the last great taboo in television is being a bit of a roughen. The main cast is one thing but when the entire Prom scene couldn't even be bothered to chuck in a token spotty, brace wearer or awkward poindexter milling around in the back I found it only added to the superficial feel of the show. Buffy managed it a decade and a half ago so theres really no excuse.
Don't get me wrong-I'm not some walking Dove advert. I don't care. I don't watch TV to see people that look like me in them. What interests me more is the hypocrisy of those like P. Ness which I find intriguing.

I thought the King (well former King) broke the stronger connection himself.

Plus the characters don't actually feel very Who-ish. They seem like kids in WAY over their head.
It feels like your average sci fi show. All this going on and not so much as a sighting of unit (maybe have Martha, Kate or Osgood come in) or Torchwood? They both ignored the world killing plants and just left it to Miss Quill and a gang of school kids?
You can forgive the Doctor not showing up in Torchwood because you assume (and it's implied) that he's off saving some other world. Same in SJA as she had K9, Mr Smith and an alien son. But these are some kids and an alien warrior who can't do anything thanks to an implant in her head and were supposed to believe the world was so close to ending and yet unit, Torchwood and The Doctor just left them to it?
I like Miss Quill. She is the only one who to me would fit into the Whoniverse. Oddly she was the one I assumed I'd like the least.
I actually quite wish it had not been a DW spin off as I'd have probably really enjoyed it as a stand alone snow.

I catch your drift, they probably could have got away with a few characters a bit more average-looking.
Quill is my favourite character so far.

Caught up with episode 5 last night and all I can say is that is was a very weak second half to a two-parter.
I thought the resolution to the shared heart thing was weakly done - it just kind of happened - meaning it fell rather flat and the forced partnership of April and Ram was even more off-putting here than before.
Ram even said in the episode they'd only known each other for a month, which just shows how rushed everything about them as a pair has been. It's not believable in anyway.
April and Ram's father's lack of reaction to being on an alien planet (more Ram's dad if I'm honest) really bugged me too. It was just so blase....very Clara-esque if I'm honest.
The flower plot meanwhile was weakly done too and to be honest, the episode as a whole just had more talking than any actual doing. Lots of scenes of the two sets of characters just talking through the plot was hardly engaging. There felt like a lack of action.
Tanya became the spare part as well in this whole two-parter and considering it was episode 5 of 8, they still don't feel like a team. That is poor writing.
Then again, as I've said previously the insular feeling of the show is to me its biggest problem. Alien invasion involving flowers....we'll just keep it between the main cast, not show its effects elsewhere. It feels like these things happen to only them when that very much isn't the case.
I know my cries of involve UNIT are becoming repetitive but the whole Govenors thing doesn't seem the same to me. It does feel like the Doctor just left the kids and Quill with all of the death and destruction of alien invasions without any thought. That's not Doctor-like in my opinion.

That bugs me too. Considering were over halfway through the series, the govenors, who seem like protectors of some sort, don't particularly come across as either good or bad. They're nothing.
At least with the likes of UNIT you know straight away and I'd find it more believable if they were about in some capacity.
Episode 5 barely and briefly touched the iPlayer top-20 and by Monday morning was out of the top-30. I suspect it'll be out of the top-40 by the end of the day.

Totally, and she's a lot better now that they've started fleshing her out a little more. There's a bit of a Twelfth Doctor-vibe to her.
I'm really intrigued by the Governors too, mainly in that I just can't interpret their motivations or their means. It just makes me want to know more.
Only watched the first one but it does seem a buffy-esque as plenty of people have mentioned, how the hell would such a school with such a history of the doctors past not be under some sort of watch? kids go missing at that place i'm sure someone from UNIT would go HMMMM......
Its SJA for 18+ audiences given the language used but please can we stop with the doctor giving those speeches as they always seem to go on and on.

UNIT have been name checked by someone and the reason may well become apparent when we learn more about said person.

I've watched all five episodes in the past couple of days and don't really like it that much, it's somehow both more childish than Doctor Who, and more adult than Doctor Who. The characters behave like younger kids than they are (except for the swearing and shagging) but there's far more blood and gore than you'd get in Doctor Who. The school scenes feel too CBBC rather than an adult drama, but the more adult content makes it unsuitable for kids. The whole thing seems a bit confused about what it's trying to be, the godawful theme song that doesn't fit the tone of the show at all is perfect in a way for such a confused mess.
The sad thing is there is some potential there. If episode 5 was the end of the first series it would have been fine, there could have been three more episodes of building the gang as a team and as individuals, so them being all apart didn't matter so much, it could have been the culmination of April's character arc of a growing relationship with Rav and letting out her bottled up anger that we'd seen bubbling under the surface.

In addition to agreeing with the above post, I'd like to say that after watching five episodes, it's come to feel like a live-action version of an 80s cartoon, with April as She-Ra style character and the Shadow King as the Hordak style character.
This does reinforce my perception of it being a childrens show that oddly contains adult themes.

I probably shouldn't comment as I've only managed 1.5 episodes and I would ridicule anyone daring to offer any opinion on anything I liked based on such a small sample but but but...
This entire enterprise feels like when the council ends up digging up roads for the sake of it just because they had some budget allocation to spend. Did they just have to spend some DW money and decided to throw it at this? Could they not have spent more wisely? Saved it up for a super big budget bonus S10? I am ignorant of the finer details of how TV budgeting works.
But this seems to have been a failure. Ok I am not the target demographic but I am a lifelong DW fan and I am friends with many others online and IRL who range from 20-50 and it just doesn't seem to have made any kind of splash. Not even a pebble being thrown into a pond. I'm quite happy to be told I'm wrong by anyone who is or has teenagers and that its a real cult success among the YA community as I never wish any failure on a Doctor Who related property but this really does seem to be slipping past without much notice or fan fair.
