I'm another who is looking forward to this. The original was one of the best pieces of television made in the last 50 yrs, so my expectations are high for this one....

Looking forward to this. First one along with frozen planet were simply stunning. It's on later this month. If any show should be shown in UHD or 4K then this is it.

Looks like I got my wish. BBC are gonna show it in UHD and HDR which is even better. Although it's gonna be on iPlayer just not sure when.

I literally squealed when I first saw the trailer. As said, the first series was stunning.

I am recording this but in all his series I can honestly say that I tend to fall asleep whilst watching them and some complaints have been levelled, in previous ones, about the background music being too intrusive. However, I give this a try and see if I can stay awake.

We all love them here and record them and keep them on DVDs ,.But I did laugh at your post as my son uses Blue Planet with the sound on low as a means to get asleep !

I think the camerawork is fantastic, never had any issue on the sound, if there was turn the volume down.

The clip they showed on BBC Breakfast this morning was not good. Jittery handled camerawork filming the camera team being afraid of nearby rhinos. It had a "scripted reality tv" feel. I hope that's not an example of the overall style of the new series.

Just watched The Graham Norton Show and they showed clips of Planet Earth 2 and it looks really good, looking forward to this.

As I said earlier, I find these programmes soporific and sometimes wonder whether they're showing fresh material or whether library footage in places. Over 6 decades of watching TV, I have become tired of so much that is now shown but admit that it is difficult to remain 'fresh' and innovative all the time and that is why my watching habits are limited now.

This is very new, but some Sunday shows do seem to reuse Attenborough cast offs.

It's not old footage as it's all filmed in 4K UHD.

Yeah I don't think they've reused old footage

'117 filming trips in 40 different countries and a total of 2089 shooting day' http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/med...lanet-earth-ii

I do understand what you mean. We've both been lucky to experience some wonderful television, much of it commissioned by Attenborough if not featuring him. But there are some viewers, perhaps not yet in their teens, who deserve a chance to see it all for the first time in their lives. I hope somebody will do as good a job for them as he did for me.

David was on Graham Norton last night explaining how new footage was obtained such as motion cameras for snow leopards.

He said the technology wasn't there in the past.

I agree children should all be able to watch this to inspire them.

Every time I see the Planet Earth trailer I am all over the place. I just sit there make noises at the screen. The music too fantastically suits the show. Not long now and I am still buzzing to watch it.

I grew up watching the David Attenborough docuementaries, shows such as Life On Earth, The Living Planet and Trials of Life. Each of those documentaries set a standard for shows of that kind, just like Planet Earth does now. Yes the technology is getting better and better and enabling us to see more and more amazing footage of the natural world.

But the one thing that runs through all of these apart from the impeccible David Attenborough is the wonder of sitting back and seeing a world that I will probably never be able to see myself. I know after watching this show I will be left spellbound and gobsmacked by just one simple scene, and once again struggling to explain why that is. These type of shows never fail to impress me for some reason.

We live in such a cynical world now where everything that happens is pecked over endlessly until you end up wondering is there any beauty anywhere? But shows like this one reminds us that there is so much we don't know about even the most recognisable animal on the planet. I hope documentaries such as these go on educating and delighting young people, just like the earlier ones did for me.

On PC. The blu ray comes out 5th Dec but don't know if there will be a 4k version. If there is I'll get it.
