The snakes segment is all over YouTube, some idiots questioning whether CGI was used.

You and me both. I don't watch reality shows. I might watch a bit of Strictly on Christmas day or when it's on over Christmas, but that's my lot. Half the 'telly stars' around these days I don't know from Adam cos they've only been on reality rubbish.

I remember when I got my first HD telly a few years ago, the first thing I said was it's the only way to watch two things - Sir David's programmes and football! I had a 32" telly for years, I just got recently got a 40" and watching Planet Earth 2 on that was just stunning. Specially watching it in the dark. But then, Sir David's programmes should aways be watched in the dark, I reckon, cos it doesn't look the same in a light room!

There aren't enough superlatives for me to describe this programme. Simply the best tv in the world and huge thanks to Sir David Attenborough who is without parallel.

I honestly don't understand all the angst about whether you could watch it in UHD or 4K or whatever it is - I watched on a 23 inch freeview tv and it blew me away.

I've yet to watch it. Nature can seem cruel, but we're all part of the food chain.

We wondered this too. Quite astonishing to be born with such an acute survival instinct, unless quite simply it froze in complete terror.

well whenever I'm watching one of these nature shows I can't help hearing a different narration , kinda like Jonny Morris used to do but rather more adult and more sweary .
they should get Matt Berry to an alternative commentary .

I agree, I watched on a 32" tv albeit with Full HD capability via Sky and deliberately watched on the HD channel rather than the SD just to see how good it looked, had no sound issues whatsoever and didn't hear any so called "sound effects" just natural sounds that the animals would be making.

That iguana and snake clip gave me so much stress

already more exciting than many film releases this year.

I think thats more to do with internet forum culture people as will always try and find a negative point to post.

I was also blown away. Them snakes were like animal terrorists! It's crazy that they film and can keep track of say the pengiun family with 1000s more in the same place.

Glad it's not just me!

I just assume it's sort of ultra HD. Even more like the real thing than HD is! I was in a Currys the other week buying a fridge/freezer and I had a walk around the telly section. There was a 50" telly that had some sort of ... it was like the camera was on top of a skyscraper. I walked about 3 feet from it and it was so sharp, the picture, it made me feel dizzy because I don't like heights! lol

I can only imagine what PE2 would look like on that. I'd have been running from the snakes meself they'd have looked so real!

Not using your sound system means you are missing out on better quality audio by virtue of the increased sound spectrum of frequencies for most programs. Home Cinema doesn't just mean loud 'base' but a fantastic range instrumental sounds from the tinkle of a little bell to the boom of a bassoon.
Turn on your sound system for any miscellaneous TV channel and keeping the TV audio at your normal level, turn the sound system off. You will 'hear' half of all the sound frequencies 'disappear'. PE2 E2 will blow your mind especially if there are more pounding of the sea scenes.

Why would anyone want to hear all those distracting, annoying noises if one is watching a nature programme - does nothing to enhance it but detracts from it.

It's true, we throw so many superlatives around for stuff that is actually quite mundane, and then something like Planet Earth 2 comes along, something that raises the standards to a whole new level and we're lost for words to describe just how stunning it is.
Your "simply the best" sums it up quite nicely though.

I can't remember the last time I was so transfixed by a tv programme (and I was watching it on a small laptop, so no surround sound or any of that, and frankly I didn't need it).

Five more of these jewels are coming our way, and I cannot wait for the snow leopards.

Thank you BBC and thank you so much David Attenborough.

The other thing that made this programme such a treat, was having David's calming dulcet tones narrating - a gorgeous, familiar voice we've listened to for a life time and so perfect for these documentaries.

My wife rarely watches quality TV but seemed quite impressed with this, apart from the snakes, so I asked her if she had discussed it with any of her clients (she owns a beauty salon), feeling that she was now a high brow TV aficionado she had regaled one lady with having watched "that Richard Attenborough programme",

Usually she just talks about Masterchef & Coronation Street

Whilst most people are happy with standard definition and DVDs apposed to Blu-ray it's going to be a long time I would imagine.

There are many who think they are watching in HD because their TVs are "HD Ready" and are unaware they are actually watching in standard definition.
