On PC. The blu ray comes out 5th Dec but don't know if there will be a 4k version. If there is I'll get it.
iPlayer on Sky does the same quality as broadcast and they have their own UHD content on demand, so if anything it will be available from them. Don't know what Virgin do. Incidentally, all Attenborough's Sky 3D docs were filmed with 4k cameras and are available in UHD (in 2D) on demand. |

iPlayer doesn't even stream 1080, so there's no way they'll be doing 2160p.

But we're talking about a programme airing tonight and unless there's a deal with Sky Q in place, there is no way to watch Planet Earth II in UHD. 720p is the best the streaming iPlayer can offer at present. Upgrading the app on UHD TVs/OTT boxes would be the first logical step as few stand alone devices support 4K. |

Obviously, we all want to see programmes in resplendent colour and clarity but ultimately the content is just as important as well.
Inferior content can't be improved upon whether it's in black and white or full UHD. |

Is there an equivalent to BluRay in 4K yet? Are there 4K players?

X factor gets crushed by strictly on a weekly basis. That show is so far past its sell by date. Simon should gone through with his plan to rest it for a few years.
By virtue of half the audience being 65+. XFactor still beats Strictly in the younger demos the advertisers want to reach. Still making ITV millions, and still the programme advertisers choose to launch their big campaigns. Back on topic, I'll wait to watch Planet Earth II until it's available, how it's meant to be watched, in UHD. |

Very excited by this. Planet Earth was one of the best things I've ever seen on TV and this second series looks even more spectacular. Can't wait!

?I don't think so, last series of planet earth was getting near 10 million in the ratings. This time it'll be down but will probably beat the six million viewers X factor gets |

Anyway, the different is PE2 is quality well produced programe with serious natural history, and presented by David Attenborough. XF no longer could be considered by any means a quality show. I am looking forward to PE2 hope the series is available to buy before Christmas. Would be a nice present, hint hint.

XF was at a series low last night, Antiques roadshow has just been a million behind XF, the years of XF getting ten million are long gone, more like six million.

Why would anyone want to watch a programme like this in SD, when the whole point is the quality of the photography?
Sad but true. |

Because people do. The majority of those with access to BBC One HD will still be watching tonight in SD, on the default channel at the top of the EPG.
Sad but true. And that's one thing that annoys me about ITV Meridian - it's divided into two half regions and the HD version shows the south-east half. If I wanted to watch Meridian News (which is rarely the case), I have to select the SD channel for my half of the region. I also think their news must be prerecorded, since they have the same presenters covering different regional stories. Sorry for going so much off-topic there!
