Some of it is undoubtedly the portrayal (survival of the fittest is not necessarily absolute or the survival of the strongest) but I do think that insects' behaviour is fascinating and bird's intelligence is often underestimated. There are also monogamous reptiles contrary to stereotype.

I said before but sometimes nature appears cruel, it's a merry go round some survive, some feed from others, but for most they live in very tenacious circumstances.

A brilliant programme.

I genuinely don't notice the sound effects, i've seen people say it's annoying but it never occurs to me.

It's a shame but.... I think the silly sound effects are borderline ruining things. Everything is too bombastic; the show and footage is strong enough on its own without needing to be sexed up to ridiculous degrees.

In fact, knowing almost all the sound is clearly dubbed is rather taking me out of the show instead of sucking me in further. I'm also questioning some of the camera filters and unusual editing/post-processing. It often doesn't feel right.

I dunno. I just can't shake off that feeling they've gotten a bit carried away with things and it's all too overproduced.

Some amazing footage in there though.

The sound effects definitely go over the top, but I guess no watches this show for subtlety.

Can't say I've noticed either, I see people complaining about the music though but I think that just adds to the drama and atmosphere.

It is all very cinematic (including the Hans Zimmer score), so it wouldn't surprise me if they are using foley artists for sound effects. It is a big production and they want us to know it. I don't mind it, but I can see why people would want them to tone it down a bit.

Fantastic series, but the non-metric measurements (ounces/fahrenheit etc) are really starting to grate. It's strange because Brian Cox uses metric measurements on his docs, and I'm wondering if it's a BBC decision on which measurement system to specify depending on whether they're selling a series to the US or not.....

I enjoy the foley effects, they add to the experience and impact of the visuals.

Why was he giving the temperatures only in fahrenheit e.g. 120 degrees fahrenheit when the UK switched to celsius decades ago. I know they want to export to the US but can't they cater for both countries?

Brian Cox uses metric because he's a 'proper' scientist and therefore incapable of speaking any language but science. David Attenborough speaks the noble tongue nobly and therefore uses the aptly named Imperial measurements. Gawd bless him!

But yes, it's probably more for the American market, the last bastion of sense in these matters!

Why waste them on animals? Locust was the kosher hit of the year in Israel in 2013. You can buy them in UK from Crunchy Critters.

David Attenborough doesn't do the narration on the US version though.

I had a chocolate brownie recently that was made with ground dried crickets (which are basically the same as locusts) instead of flour. That was perfectly fine and apparently a bit healthier than a traditional cake.
