Ah, no, you're right. I'd forgotten that. Well it's just plain old style colonial cussedness then! Good on him!

Four episodes into the series and I am still gobsmacked by the superb camera work. Truly amazing footage of the natural world and its vast array of species.
Each species surviving on Planet Earth has its place and purpose in the 'natural' food chain. Most species would continue to survive if it wasn't for the over-populated human species intent on destroying these natural Eco systems.

Before I moved here to Wales I lived in Mallorca. One day when I was watering the garden something big flew out of a shrub and was heading for me. I didn't know what it was and didn't wait to see. I ran into the house and shut the door and it landed on one of the glass panels at exactly my eye-level. A locust! It stayed there quite a long time and it was fascinating to be able to examine it behind glass and two inches from it.

It was biiiig, about 4 inches. If it had flown into my hair I think I might have quietly died on the spot. I was telling myself it was just a bigger Jiminey Cricket but that didn't work.

How those guys could stand in the swarm...

Yes, but we only partially switched. When it gets hot we tend to switch to Fahrenheit - e.g. when the temperature hits 100 degrees.

The only thing we fully turned metric with was money, I think.

Nothing metric about money! It was decimalised.

BIB: speak for yourself! When he said 120 degrees it didn't register that he meant Fahrenheit, though 120° Celsius would be impossibly hot in retrospect.

I looked it up, and the highest ever Death Valley temperature recorded was 57° C. Doesn't that doesn't sound hot to you?

I wonder if there is any correlation between Brexiteers and Fahrenheiters?

It's the usual fifth rate shite from Attenborough - it happens time and time again.

Very poor camerawork, utterly dreadful narration and not even a reality star/Z-list celebrity to be seen anywhere.

Just what does he have over the corporation bosses?

Shame on the BBC for making this tripe.

Do you not get irony/sarcasm? Doesn't the mention of "Z-list celebrity" give it away to you?

Honestly, some people would take anything literally.

I do/ did, but some posts are so out there you feel you do have to right, very serious wrongs.

I thought sarcasm was against the terms of posting here.

Not a big reader of the forums then?

If you read any of my threads on General you would see what my opinion of this superb show would actually be - but I don't really believe you thought I was being serious at all.

Just going on previous experience with Sigourney Weaver doing Planet Earth last time in USA. However, I've just taken a quick look at the preview clips on the BBC America site (isn't VPN wonderful!) and they're using David Attenborough's narration so maybe that's going to be the case for the full series.

No that doesn't sound hot at all. Simple rule: Celsius below freezing cos it sounds colder, Fahrenheit when the sun shines cos it sounds warmer. Standard for natives on both sides of the referendum vote. Don't care how insistent and powerful the EU may have become the one thing you don't get in the way of is the British obsession with weather!

Absolute nonsense. Fahrenheit is history this side of the Atlantic. Perhaps you never had a scientific education. And it's not an age thing either, before you bring up that old chestnut - I am in my mid-seventies. Time to get with the present, I feel.
