He's demonstrating that he's so successful at finding food that he's got plenty of energy left over and is strong enough to defend the nest - both desirable attributes. I think.

I think a lot of the slow things are speeded up for this programme. Oh, and some are in super slow motion

Can't remember which programme or which insects were involved but there's somewhere where they are lit up at night. Beautiful and a bit spooky.
