Welcome everyone! As I mentioned in the launch thread, this game will serve as an experiment to see how well the single-thread format of practically all other forum games can be applied to this particular brand.

Anyway, let's not go off-topic already. We're here for the first live show of The X Factor: Wheel of Fortune! Acts have been chosen, songs have been thoroughly thought out and assigned, and now it's finally time for both the judges and contestants to see who's in it to win it.

As decided by the week 1 wheels, the theme tonight is Express Yourself. The opportunity to make a good first impression will be of utmost importance tonight, as two acts will be leaving us before the show is over.

Excited yet? Just wait until you see the Wheel of Fortune top 12 and their mentors:
Come on, how could not use this intro tune?

Just about to eat my tea so will be there in a bit. Please post my comments for a while

Are any of the other judges here?

I have comments from both Jacka and McCoy, but not Maris.

I'm here now!

All right, one judge is better than none. I do wonder where Maris is though.

I'm going to wait 5 more minutes before starting. If she doesn't show, she'll just have to catch up.

Okay, time's up. Admittedly, I'm a little disappointed by the low number of judges being able to attend the show. In the future - please just use the thread and post, that's part of the reason why they're there. That way we can work out date on which more people will be able to attend.

Anyway, this show can still be salvaged. Let's see if our extravagant duo Bratavio are up to the task.

Now that is how you get the show started boys! That was outstanding and suited you down to a tea. Fun is what you are all about and that was definitely that. The vocals and harmonises worked very well and this is hopefully just the beginning of your journey. Coming back to mentoring was a hard decision to make and you honestly make this so exciting for me as your genre is something I love to work with. You left first on the actual show but after that you definitely don't deserve to!

Jacka: "Well boys, I was interested to see what you would come up with…and I see what your mentor was going with here. However, I think that, week in and week out, this is going to become a very boring and repetitive act – minimising the vocals where possible. For your own sake, and for your mentors, I’m hoping we say goodbye to you soon."

McCoy: "You've brought the house, you've thrown a massive party here. And you know what, this was the strongest you've been. You have brought us to places. You know, you might be our dark horse this series Great job Bratavio! BUT vocally that was the worst of the night."

Confused about Jackas critique as it was nothing to do with the song choice...

Ouch, some harsh comments from the judges for Bratavio. Are the DS public more impressed with this colourful opening?

Hoping for better comments across the board, it's the first of the girls. Please give her a warm welcome, it's Lola Saunders!

Lola I am afraid I wasn't a fan of that at all. I understood what your mentor was trying to do but it just seemed extremely dated which is what your mentor said they were trying to avoid. If you are here next week I hope you have a a modern song that shows off the jazzy sort of vocals that you have. You have potential but this song didn't show that! I am not sure if you will make it but good luck

Jacka: "Lola, that was a nice vocal. But honestly, it was a very, very boring track. I’m hoping this isn’t what your mentor is hoping to set up from “Express Yourself”, because if it’s just going to be bland every week it’s going to be a very vanilla competition indeed. I just hope we get to see you reinvent yourself into something more exciting next week!"

McCoy: "Lola, I actually have a huge personal connection to this song and it is very dear to me due to my own personal life but I wanted to give this to you as I knew you'd give it justice and you totally did. For me girl, the performance of the SERIES for the GIRLS alone."

Mixed comments for Lola, with two of the judges branding the performance dull. Will she get the chance to show a more energetic side to herself next week?

Up next, performing a very well known and fairly difficult song, it's the one and only Christopher Peyton!

"Finally, some exciting vocals! Peyton, I was so excited for you in the competition and was so looking forward to seeing how you’d progress and the weeks went on. And then Mrs O cut my dreams short! This track shows off some more of your vocal range and talents which we didn’t really get to see between only two different songs being shown on the show. I have plenty of ideas in this kind of rock-influenced sound for you and I’m excited to show off what you’ve got!"

McCoy: "On paper Chris, this really doesn’t work and I was nervous about seeing this performance however you actually blew me away. You deserve your place in this competition."

I am a bit conflicted on this song choice. Whilst I appreciate that your mentor tried to make you more current, I felt that it was a bit too much for you. The vocals did suit you to an extent but I feel that you should have been given a song that showed off the soulful tone that you have more. Adam Lambert is more pop which isn't really you at all, especially this song. I can definitely see where your mentor was coming from but it didn't quite work for me!

It seems there were quite some doubts about Peyton's performance. While some of these doubts have been negated, not everyone on the panel was completely convinced from the looks of it.

Moving on, it's time for the boys category to show us what they're made of. Performing an Andy Grammar track, it's Jack Walton.

This was definitely my favourite outside of my category so far. Although the vocals had a bit too much of a rasp on them sometimes, it definitely suited your sort of style. Your mentor obviously gets you a lot. I am always very nervous when I see a new sort of mentor but you did really well for week 1 tonight. For next week, just try to pick a more interesting song that builds more but other than that it was a good start. Well done I really enjoyed that!

Jacka: "Jack! I loved that! It was something very fresh feeling and definitely re-introduced you to everyone with some flavour. If you continue on with this style I can’t wait to see where this competition will take you. Well done!"

McCoy: "Nothing bad to say about that. I loved it! I hope the people PM Rick and vote for you as there are a lot of great songs prepared for you. Quite excited for it. Good job Jack!"

Wow, what a start for Jack Walton! Still, he's going to need the public's support if he wants to actually get somewhere in this competition.

Are we ready for a party? Because you know the roof's gonna come straight off when Reggie N Bollie are in the house!

Guys what a fantastic start for you! You are by far one of the most difficult acts that I have ever worked with. However, that was just great for you. It had the uplifting vibes that you always bring and had the perfect combination of vocals and harmonies. I honestly didn't know if I could pull anything good off with you boys but I am so proud of that. I really want to do a lot more with you so I hope you get through tonight. That performance proves that I know what to do with you and I am excited for more

Jacka: "REGGIE N BOLLIEEEE! I mentored you too to a 2nd Place in another game last year so I am over the moon to see you back in another competition. What people don’t tend to realise is that you guys have some serious talent suited to a huge market across Africa and there’s many sounds which are out there which fit your vibe. I am excited to see what your mentor will bring for you guys in the competition – and this I liked! Well done!"

McCoy: "Reggie n Bollie, it was pretty good! Very good, actually! It's not really a genre that I personally like, but I see why so many like you! It was a great song choice."

Another fantastic start, this time for Reggie and Bollie! If we keep this up, the DS public are going to have a very difficult decision ahead of them.

Back to Maris and the girls. She's only sixteen (tm), it's Olivia Garcia!

Woo a modern performance from the girls. I actually quite liked that song choice and it was very catchy. The only negatives I have are that Olivia's voice is much lower pitched than this and the song was a bit cringe. However, it was quite a good start and better than I expected tbh. If you are here next week which I think you will be as you are the sort of act that appeals to DS, then I would choose a song that is less generic and maybe try and choose an indie type one. Alright job though tonight!

Jacka: "Olivia! I was really rooting for you to get into the Live Shows because I feel like you have a really good sound to your voice which is definitely marketable. Tonight, I saw exactly what kind of artist you would become and I am delighted with what I saw. Keep up the good work, well done!"

McCoy: "I don't think this was right for your voice. It didn't fully showcase what you're capable of. Great singer, great song but it didn't work together for me."

Mixed comments for Olivia. For her sake, let's hope the public take Pingu and Jacka's side on this issue.

Next up, bringing out her inner diva, it's Jennifer Phillips!
