Not sure if it has been mentioned anywhere, but invitations to her press conference next tuesday were, not so surprisingly, sent by Sony Music Finland.

Could she have been signed by the RCA just like Matt Terry?
Or perhaps with Sony Music Finland? Didn't Mary Byrne and Andrea Faustini get record deal from their local Sony labels (Ireland and Italy)?

if you look at voting patterns she lost only because 5am fans voted for matt at the final two stage
While I do think it's likely that many 5AM fans opted for Matt in the second part of the final, I think you have to look at the voting stats as a whole.

Saara did win weeks 8 and 9, but not by much. The voting was close at the end of the season - extremely close. Just look at the percentages. She also didn't lead by much in the first half of the final vote.

Ultimately, she came into the live shows as fodder. Matt came into the live shows as one of the favorites - the biggest favorite. Saara was fighting for her place in the live shows in the first few weeks while Matt was topping the vote. Towards the end of the season, Saara gained momentum and Matt lost some of his. Saara went into the final weekend with the momentum, but then the "Purple Rain" duet happened. And Saara's song choices on the final weekend (yes, both nights), just weren't good.

Ultimately, the voters in the end opted for their original favorite. He fought for that win on the final weekend and deserved to win. Saara still did extremely well all things considered.

But can local Sony do enough to get her work globally? I mean there are not that many globally famoush finnish singers. No idea how record labels exactly work.

I notice James Arthur was first signed to Sony Germany, and then Syco re-signed him (after he had a global hit though). Since her goal was to go beyond Finland I'm very curious to see how this works out.

Perhaps Sony doesn't think she has the potential to go global?

In any case, I'm sure she will still get promoted in the UK.

She already has her own record label (Yume Records) in Finland, that she founded with her ex-boyfriend Teemu Roivainen, and has put out 5 CDs.
So she wouldn't need to sign with a different label in Finland.

If she has signed with Sony it'll be for a worldwide deal, I would imagine.
Otherwise not much point.

LOL, self releasing albums or signing to a local branch of a major label are two completely different animals. Signing to a major gives an artist access to top songwriters and producers and of course proper promotion.

That's certainly where the discussion should be.

I see she says she is due back in Finland on Tuesday, so presumably this press conference is happening.
(unfortunately she's laid up with the flu just now )

I still don't see the point in her doing the X-Factor UK if her ambitions only lay in Finland. So hopefully any recordings will be released Worldwide .

I brought up James Arthur a few posts before yours, maybe its another co-sign with Syco in the UK. JA is signed to Sony Germany but he is also on Columbia in the US and is currently getting a push there. Thats the only way signing to a label in Finland makes any sense to me considering her stated intentions.

You could well be right.

Whatever deal she signed, she did so within a few days of X-Factor ending, and she's been celebrating since then. She wouldn't have done that if it'd been a Finland only thing. That would have been a last resort.

Not that I've got anything against Finland, but I'm sure she feels that she's achieved all she can there.

The UK rejected her when it mattered the most....she's probably better off switching back to Finland as they gave her a sensational homecoming.

Or here's another possibility. She is actually signing to Syco/Sony UK, but instead of the typical low key photo of the artist signing on some conference table, to have her back home with a cast of thousands cheering her on makes more of a publicity splash. Maybe Sony Finland is just hosting the signing.

If the UK rejected her she'd have been at the bottom of the vote in week 1. She must have done something right to make it to the final (even if she did fall in the sing off).

I see no reason why she can't make waves here as she must have quite a lot of fans now.

The Uk hasn't rejected her at all. She came within a few percentage points of winning the bloomin' thing.
The UK has embraced her.

I don't know what her prospects are coz I fear that she's not the kind of act that will sell huge amounts. But I don't think that's her market really - in terms of the big, big players in music. She could do some really decent adult contemporary music that I think might get her an audience like Rebecca Ferguson has.

Well, joint deal with Syco and Sony Music Finland. I knew Sony Music Finland had to be involved because why have a press conference in Finland to announce a record deal?

Seems like Syco didn't care enough to sign her on their own, but will still help. At least help her promote in the UK or something.

No, they did. They even cared enough to recognise that she has selling power in her home territory. If a regional label wants to release in a different territory they will licence to another label or distributor in the desired territory. Syco on its own couldn't push her in Finland and rest of Europe, they need partners for that, and being part owned by Sony will make it very easy to find a local label also under Sony's umbrella for those deals. So I believe what probably happened is that Syco is the main label and SMF will licence her material for release in Finlans, but rights ownership is with Syco. Or even the other way around, doesn't really make that much of a difference for how her releases will be treated, it just affects who will finance the releases.
