Evening.
We recently switched from TalkTal's Youview to EE TV.
the Youview box is still connected via an aerial, but plugged into the EE router.
Can I leave the Youview box plugged into an HDMI port, but with no aerial,so we can access the recordings on it?
I would then plug the aerial into the new EE tv box, and connect this to the spare HDMI socket on the TV,so we can access the EE services.
thanks for any input.

Why don't you unplug the aerial to the YouView box and try !!!

Without a TalkTalk contract, your existing YouView box should work as a Freeview HD PVR. It won't receive any of the TalkTalk specific services, of course. If you plug the aerial into the EE box, but connect the YouView box via HDMI, you should still be able to replay the recordings already on it, but you won't be able to add any new ones without plugging the aerial back in.

Now that EE is part of BT's empire, the future of its TV service is rather uncertain. BT have indicated a desire to develop their YouView platform to the point where it is a serious alternative to SkyQ. Where EE TV fits into all this is anybody's guess to the best of my knowledge.

All the YouView box requires to playback recordings is a mains supply and working batteries in the remote. A telly to see what you are doing helps but even that is not essential There is no need for an aerial unless you wish to view or record live TV programmes.

When I bought a used TalkTalk Youview box, it still had recordings on the hard drive. The only recordings I could play back were the FTA ones. It would not play back any of the recordings of the streamed channels.

Only the subscription streamed channels from the ISP can be recorded or played back and only if you have a subscription.
The person who recorded them would have had a subscription, but presumably you did not have a subscription, or the recordings were for channels that were no longer included in your subscription.

Yep. Exactly.

The answers given to the OP's question so far has been that he will still be able to watch his recordings. That will only be true for the FTA recordings now that he no longer has a TalkTalk subscription.

Any recordings of subscription channels will no longer be playable.

Thanks everyone: I had already guessed I could do what I wanted, but thanks for the confirmations.
I had worked out that I couldn't access the recordings I'd made from non-FTA channels -even though they were listed on the planner -once I'd cancelled the talkTalk subscription...
