At least from tonight he's doing the A-Z of 2016 so he won't have much time to rant about Brexit and Trump
The words 'paint dry' and 'sharp needles in my eyes' come to mind...

If he returned to what he's good at (i.e. not talking about politics) he might be worth listening to again. As he is now, he appears to sound redundant and should look for an opportunity on another station.
Imo Nick is unparalleled when he keeps it light. Unfortunately post referendum he seemed to get bogged down. Plus he would display smug disdain towards callers he disagreed with - that's when he wasn't talking over them.

Well that's what we are doing, however, thre is this transitional period where we're in mourning for how entertaining he used to be and we're checking back to hear if he's regained his previous attraction. Sadly, he hasn't and now I don't listen to him as I've given up any hope.
I can't see the show changing any time soon, maybe it's LBC policy....look what happened to Clive Bull.

I've only heard this knob accidentally when looking for someone intelligent like Ian Collins, and it's always the same -

what about Trump <boing>
yes I said Trump <boing>
he's worse than Bush <boing>
imagine Bush and Trump together <boing>
almost as bad as Blair <boing>

I think it's just a tape loop they've been playing for months

I listened in last night and he had an hilarious conversation with an Indian man. The Indian man made reference to his feelings about the Pakistan community which made Nick laugh.

I still enjoy his program in the main. If you want to hear some real dross with dreadful presenters, tune in to 5 live at almost any time of the day or night.

Well I found that whole A-Z show pretty lame to be honest, but better than the usual Trump/Brexit show I suppose (although both topics still featured quite heavily. )

2016 has been a fantastic year. BREXIT, a very successful Olympics and Donald Trump !

Yes, there were many well-known people who died, but people die all the time. They were only household names who became famous through television, so it's not surprising that after 40+ years of exposure they're beginning to die off.

A great year !

Nick getting a bit frustrated about being asked to talk about George Michael's death. It's a sad event obviously, but seriously what is there to talk about just yet. He's clearly getting annoyed with the producer and taking calls straight to air.

It must be very difficult to pick up and run with a story like that when there's virtually no direction to take it in, other than punt for memories from callers, which really isn't Nick's style. In fact it's at odds with his style.

Interesting to hear them wheel out Richard Park after 1am. I wonder whether LBC goes slightly bigger on pop star deaths than it otherwise would, because it shares a building with pop stations and Global senior management have a pop radio background. I remember them doing the same when Whitney Houston died.

It's all very sad, but rolling news, really? Where can you meaningfully take that once the announcement has been made, short of endless gushing tributes?

I felt really bad for NA. He openly admitted he knew very little about George and was clearly angry. It was a little awkward to listen to and bless him, he wasn't feeling well either. As a pro, he handled it very well.

I agree. Unfortunately, celebrity obsession is the reason there's a perception that so many of them have died this year.

My prediction is that next year there'll be just as many "celebrities" dying next year and beyond. There are so many of them, so it's logical some are going to die.

Nick Abbott probably isn't celebrity obsessed.

Steve Allen on the other hand . . . . .

I like Nick, but he always seems to struggle with breaking news.

Yes, breaking News isn't really Nick's area but he's always made it clear that he's not a journalist, and I get the impression he plans his shows very carefully and that's just how he works. He's also not the type of bloke to pretend he knows about someone if he doesn't.

I thought he handled last night as well as he could really, facilitating and prompting the various news people that were dropped into the show but making it clear that they needed to lead the reporting as he wasn't an expert himself.
