Tony Blackburn for SOTS would be a great BBC swansong for this legendary broadcaster.

Free radio 80 to become free 2 & join city 2 network.
Touch fm stations sold & re brand as signal . community radio tcrfm close or merges with another station . BBC radio Derby to cover Lichfield & tamworth instead of BBC WM. |

Radio Caroline and Quasar Radio awarded AM licences and later in the year combine under relaxed Ofcom rules for community radio and become radio caroline south an north with most programmes being duplicated. Radio Caroline makes a relative success of it and seeks further expansion in other parts of the country.

Capital becoming one national station relaying it on local FM frequencies thanks to a relax in guidelines for a FM station. As a result of this local presenters will be axed.
Gold will either take a national slot on Digital One or it will be local DAB multiplexes replacing Capital. The Arrow will go on local DAB multiplexes in areas where Gold is already on local DAB In Manchester Capital will be replaced on DAB by Communicorp's Manchester XS which is not on DAB currently. |

If Caroline does get the licence, I think that it will slowly expand, possibly by adding low power relays. Manx 1368 could yet play a part in Caroline's expansion. |

I don't think there's going to be a great deal of change in national sports radio during 2017 as most of the major national radio rights deals have been tied up for the next few years.
I think the one major radio rights deal up for grabs - to the British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand - will be won by Radio 5 Live, after talkSPORT had exclusive commentary rights to the 2013 tour. I'd love to be proven wrong on this, as I thought TS did a superb job of covering the Australia tour and their sister station talkSPORT 2 provides regular commentaries on the Premiership, but given their lack of interest in rights to the last Rugby World Cup and the cancellation of the long-running rugby show on their main station, I think 5 Live will make a bigger play than them for these rights. talkSPORT secured exclusive national radio commentary rights to next summer's British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand less than a month after I predicted they wouldn't: http://talksport.com/press/talksport...d-161115217227 Not that I'm complaining about promptly being proven wrong; I thought they did an excellent job of covering the Lions' tour to Australia in 2013 and talkSPORT 2's rugby union coverage is consistently very strong. I'm sure they'll do a very good job in New Zealand. |

Not liking this development with Capital at all. |

What I'm saying is Global trying to hide something from us, because at least 2 people are leaving capital this week.

They have both CHOSEN to leave and have been replaced. if Global were up to anything regarding local shows then they wouldn't be replacing presenters |

Every year I say absolute pull the plug on 1215 AM
& Every year I am wrong . So next year absolute radio stays on medium wave & no one is bothered as everyone listens on DAB or FM in London & West Midlands. |

Following the relaxation of the rules on local radio, I am assuming that Global will use the remaining space to launch national versions of its stations such as gold. I assumed this is why gold has left the scotland mux etc. Hopefully they will use DAB+ and lunch chill nationally again.

I'm not either, but as someone who spends a fair bit of time on the A5, it would be very welcome. Where's mattd when you need him?

On their website Arqiva say there are 35 transmitters left to complete the local DAB rollout (they have launched 185 of the 220). They say the other 35 will be on in 2017.
