Stopped washing hair
I'm a bloke with curly/wavy hair (bit like Colin Firth, I'm told), and used to wash my hair about every couple of days, and it looked crap. I read somewhere that there's actually no need to wash hair if you can get away with it, so I stopped.
I've now not used shampoo for 4 months, and it looks much better - shinier, easy to manage, no frizz. Has anyone else done this? |

Dude that 'shine' is grease and oil. No frizz because of all the oil lol

It's a total myth – any 'improvement' is entirely in your imagination.
And unwashed hair stinks. |

So you don't subscribe to the theory that your hair produces it's own natural oils to protect it and that the detergent in shampoo strips them away...?
If it does smell no one would be too scared to tell me. They're quick to point out all my other faults. |

Buying SLS free shampoo will help with that though and you then condition your hair to put the moisture back in. Think about the build up on your scalp from all that natural oil, must be horrible! And the woman who hasn't washed her hair in five years; yes it shows the hair is greasy in that first pic. |

So the solution is to not bother wash your hair?

When I say I haven't washed it, I just mean I haven't used shampoo. I am still showering and using water on it, but nothing else. |

Years ago I had a perforated ear drum and was told on no account to let water in that ear so I stopped washing my hair for a few weeks. It did get really greasy and horrible for a bit - I put it up and wore a hat or scarf - but after about three weeks it started to look nice and clean and healthy again. Apparently hair pretty much cleans itself if you let it.

Yes – just typical clickbait. Apart from anything else, shampoo is just as much for cleaning your scalp as your hair. Would you let your armpits or pubic region go unwashed for weeks on end?

I had an ex who wouldn't wash his hair more often than once every few weeks and it looked awful - greasy and smelly - sort of a sick smell. In addition to this he also refused to comb it and it was shoulder length - it looked ridiculous. In all honesty, and I am sorry to say this, but his head and hair had a very unpleasant odour.
His party trick however was to cut his hair, standing on newspaper, completely naked .Lol, we didn't last very long and I don't miss his smelly head. |

The only way it would 'clean itself' would be on the pillows overnight.

If it's long, and you're a bloke, I imagine it's more prone to getting greasy etc. I'm just saying - it isn't necessary for everyone to use detergents all the time. Its not good for your skin or hair. I don't smell or look greasy. Water does the job fine. |

My friend used to wash her little girls hair in just water, as she was suspicious of chemicals in shampoo. And she had the most beautiful, shiny hair, not greasy, just silky soft.
