Why does Stacey not seem to care they are hanging around in Bex's bedroom and basically banned Martin from being concerned and looking out for her daughter? She seems happy just to leave them alone to get up to whatever they want.

The names Bex and Shaki are so stupid, I'm sorry but it gets on my nerves everytime I hear them being called that

It would improve his character at a stroke, the storyline could be a bit of a handful but I'm sure that the actor could pull it off.

If that's what they like to be called, that's up to them.

You basically meant 'No-one spoke to me about sex when I was a kid so I'm all right, Jack'. *roll eyes*

No, she has enough respect for them to trust that they will do the right thing and sort it out for themselves like adults would have to, instead of Martin's tedious caveman approach.

BIB - which is understandable. But what we mustn't forget is that Martin would be useless without Stacey. Stacey the all-knowing, wise, strong, plucky and ruling matriarch of the family. It is written that Martin will always bow to her superiour knowledge (being a weak, stupid man) and tell her how wonderful she is and how SO right she is....again.

Yes, I fully agree. And I say this as a woman, soaps are so sexist in Britian. Men dumb, women superior. Bleuch!

Me too. I can see the dumbing down of men and the women being portrayed as superior.

I'm beginning to think this storyline could turn dark with the whole issue of consent being raised. Bex is blowing hot and cold at the moment. What if she starts to have sex with Shakil, then panics and says no but he carries on regardless??

Is it rape, or not?? Either way, Martin will kill him.

To be honest I hope this does not happen. I don't want to have to watch any more of this rubbish with Shakil aka the walking erection.

It's a pity she didn't stick with the compromise they seemed to have reached. They both would have learned a valuable lesson, him of respect for her and she of respect for herself. She's gone and blown it now.

It's just like a Grange Hill storyline....very poor

What happened I thought she said she still wanted to wait until it felt right and he agreed.

When she was jumping around the bedroom arranging the teddies I felt it was more like Grange kindergarten

She's chopping and changing all the time. First she wants to wait and he agrees; then she says well maybe and he gets his hopes up (amongst other things) and she starts kissing him but then backs off again. It's understandable, she is not really ready for sex but wants to please him but then gets scared again. He is oblivious to anything but the fact that he wants a shag. It's got disaster written all over it.

She shares a room with Lily so I don't see what the problem is.

Exactly. This is an emotionally intelligent storyline, not 'Grange Hill' as others put it.

By the end Shakil said that he was happy to wait until she was ready despite her chopping and changing. He is coming across as quite mature in my view and far from oblivious to things and clearly has moved away from only wanting a shag.

It was both of them that wanted to shag by the way but Bex changed her mind and after dropping a nasty clanger the other night it seems Shakil has come to terms with that.

Sigh. Halic said that it was like Grange Hill and I said what with the teddies it was more like Grange kindergarten. No problems from me.

What was the story with that picture Shakil received on his phone tonight? Did one of his friends text him that? I'm guessing this isn't the end of the storyline judging by that scene

With all due respect you don't know what I meant.

You're not a mind reader, although you're clearly arrogant enough to believe that you're one.

Yes it looks like a variation on a bullying story line with Shakil the victim because he is a virgin.

Why didn't he just lie like all teenage boys

So in turn, you're arrogant enough to assume I know what you mean when you won't actually explain what you mean.

What I simply meant was that imo, there isn't really a need for parents to talk about it because there is sex education.

I've actually quite liked this storyline. It's quite realistic and shows how young girls can feel pressured. It does also raise the consent issue if it happens. I think Bex wants to but also understands it's the pressure from peers in general. Shaki to be fair seemed to understand and not bow down either.
I also think Stacey trusts Bex and knows if it will happen, she'd rather keep Bex close instead of pushing her away so she could end up having sex in a back alley with him or something.
Think this highlights teenage sex really well actually.

Parents have a responsibility to discuss it properly. Sex education doesn't teach you about the pressure, the emotions, how it changes the relationship. Parents should all talk to their kids about sex when it gets to that point. My 10 year old daughter just had sex education - in 5, 6 or 7 years time she will understand sex but what about the rest?
That's like saying schools have to discipline children and teach them life skills, how to deal with reality. It doesn't happen. Very naive.
