Back in the early-mid 80s Wimpy used to do a fantastic spicy beanburger. with cheese. Really! Best veggie burger ever, the only one non-veggies would ever choose as a option. This was after they had finally morphed into a McDonalds' style fast food joint.

We frequented Wimpy back in the '70s - I recall the first time I went into a McDonalds and was most intregued by the idea of gerkins in a burger!
![]() I had forgotten what a Bender is - turns out its like a savaloy curled up in a bun. Don't think I ever had one nor would I want one now!

I remember the first Wimpy I ever saw and went into!.... it must have been the late 50's and my family and I lived in East London... We went for a day out to see the 'New' town of Harlow!......There was a Wimpy bar in the town so we all went in and had a meal!.... a very rare treat in those days.... Me and my sisters loved it!.. we felt very 'American' lol....

Dad used to take us to WImpys some Sundays to give Mum a rest from cooking, He always got the mixed grill, with a fancy ( back then) coffee & I always got egg & chips, my sister always got a milk shake. It was fun.

Wimpy is still going in certain areas, they still do a Bender in the Bun, and a bean veggie burger, not sure whether it's the same as the one from before though.

Wimpy closed in Carmarthen a few years ago. Sad as I still used to go there, but only about twice a year.

I remember taking my youngest son to the one in Crewe, no idea if it is still there.
We would have a knickerbocker glory between us and two of the long spoons. |

We still have a Wimpy in Nottingham, of our 2 big shopping centres, its in the less of the 2 and somewhat hidden away, but it does have waitress service and proper plates and cutlery.
Below is a link to a picture of the place, but no idea what the site is https://www.ilbe.com/8704648523 |

Does it say anywhere what year it's from? I did a price comparison on the Berni Inn menu I found the other week and most things cost virtually the same in todays money.

It's a frankfurter sausage cut into attached segments so that it can be bent into a circle.

They used to do a delicious pud. It was a donut with whippy ice cream, chocolate sauce and nuts I think. I could eat about 3 in one sitting. Stuff the burger, I wanted the donut.
