Lol!!! Not really my department, but I absolutely agree about Gary being one of the most believable & well developed (behave yourselves) characters on the show!!
He started off a thug, mainly due to the bad influence of 'Uncle Len' & a lack of any sort of decent role model with his father, Eddie but prison had an effect on him & it was Ted, Gail's Dad who made him think about his actions & suggested to him about joining the army (what happened to Ted, he was a wonderful character?) & from there we are led to believe Kal was another good influence & the fact his best mate Quinny died trying to save him humbled him further (one of the most powerfully acted Corrie scenes I can remember in recent years when he told Quinny's parents about that!!)
The Gary that returned from the army, while still a troubled soul, was a different character to the one that left & since then he has tried his best to be a better person and, while the old Gary resurfaces occasionally, he is a lot more in control these days!!
Bonding straight away with Faye, then having a child with Izzy have developed his character further & I now find him eminently likeable & a character I can relate to & actually care about!!
Hope getting him involved with the Platts doesn't end up landing him back in trouble again!!
Oh and I think Mikey North is an excellent actor when given good material too!!
