Amazon Fire Kids 7" any good - upgrade from Hudl 2?
Hi there,
My children have had Hudl 2's for just over a year, but one now has a cracked screen and the other a dodgy charging port from where they have been a bit careless and also have not been overly impressed with the Hudl with battery life and also storage problems (reporting not enough storage even though I'm deleting apps, cleaning and even clearing CACHE partition). I was wondering how the Amazon Fire Kids tablets are compared to the Hudl 2's? Thanks Mark. |

The Fire 7 is a good low budget tablet and a few of my friends have them. I haven't seen the 'ruggedised' kids version, but I expect it will be a lot more robust than the Hudl. Amazon cusomter service is pretty good too.

Also a couple questions if anybody knows.
What the child restrictions are like (can you restrict hours and times and also allow certain apps)? Also is it only the Amazon store you can download apps from? Thanks for the reply. Mark. |

The Kids tablet has the same internal storage as the Hudl2 and a significantly lower resolution display so is only an upgrade in terms of being more child-proof/friendly frankly.
The Hudl2 was amazing value given its specs and you won't find an equivalent at the price - hence why I've still got one! |

Mark. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fire-Tablet.../dp/B018Y22DT6 You can only use the Amazon App Store, but most of the stuff from the Google Play store is there. |

I got a standard Kindle fire for my four year old grand daughter for £49 and spent a fiver on a shockproof case for it like these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rubber-Sho...Wm5j9-UpoBNMnw She loves it. We still have a couple of Hudls but both have charging port issues which is a common problem with them...shame as they were very good tablets. |

I kept having out of memory issues (even after upgrades, cleaning and even a cache partition wipe), but both have gone faulty now. Unfortunately Tesco do not make them anymore, but they have given us £40 Clubcard vouchers for it going wrong outside the year, so something to put towards new ones.

In the end we have decided to try the Alba 8" tablet which is on offer at Argos at the moment (has 16gb and also a 2 year warranty with some good reviews and also looks like it has good parental control).
This is the one here: http://www.argos.co.uk/product/5769298 Thanks Mark. |

Got one for my 4 year old. Excellent value. You can start it up in kids mode which has all child friendly apps, games, videos and books, or you can use it like a standard kindle tablet. All the Amazon Underground apps are free and all in app purchases are free ( which can be expensive when same game acquired through Play Store) Amazon also include 1year FREE subscription to Amazon Kids which has lots of popular kids shows, games and books, and also include a 2 year They Break It We Replace It guarantee which covers unlimited accidental damage, i.e. Broken screens, damaged charging ports etc. Amazon customer service is excellent and when my Fire TV remote broke just outside warranty they sent me out a new remote and fire tv box next day and sent packaging and free returns post for the old equipment.

I own a Kindle Fire HD 6. The performance of the new budget Fire tablets is actually worse. Worth reading the review below because they sound like they can really struggle at times when doing fairly basic things.
